I'm two days into term 1 at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment. There are 4 terms of 8 to 10 weeks each, making about 36 weeks. That's 50 percent more than a uni year!
AIE is an industry course for making games. In the last few years programming students got a 100 percent employment rate, and I'm praying it stays that way for 2007. Because with only 7 students I could be doomed if the percentage falls below 80.
There are also about 30 graphics students. In the second semester we make a game from scratch. Each team will have 3 or 4 programmers and 15 artists... That means a lot of cut scenes.
The first two days were pretty nice. Our tutor/lecturer is the coolest! He is insightful and funny, which are excellent qualities in someone I'm having to put up with for a year.
Next year I'll be on a $70k job playing games all day, as well as all night!
Or I might be on a $20k job sweating my ass of programming all day, as well as all night...
