Today, I got a call about the claim on the car. The insurance wanted me to send pictures and also an estimate (2 if it's over $500). Not a problem--I emailed the pictures ASAP and left work early to stop by a place recommended by the Lexus dealership for an estimate.
They said the tow truck company manager would be contacting me and she did. She wanted to see the damage in person, but I told her that I lived an hour away and it was not convenient for me to drive down there and back--not to mention it made no sense! She goes on saying how they have a company they work with and they would like to deal with this without the insurance. I dont know how I like the sound of that.
She asked what happened so I told her what happened and the damage done. She asked me why I didnt see the scratches while the dipshit was trying to unlock my car. I straight up told her I was at the other side of the car helping the dumbass guide the metal hook to the lock--not breathing down his back and watching his every move. She went on a story about how when she gets locked out, she calls AAA and if they cant unlock, then you're supposed to call a locksmith. GOOD FOR YOU! This was the first time EVER that I have locked myself out so I didnt know what to expect. I certainly didnt expect scratches up the wazoo.
Anyway, she then tried to tell me to get more than one quote blah blah blah. I'm doing what the insurance company is telling me to do--not her. She was still very insistant on seeing the damages herself and I told her I sent pics to the insurance company and she could get the pics from them and if that wasn't enough, well, then she was more than welcome to drive up, but I was not going down there. This situation alone has already caused enough inconvenience that I dont need anymore.
So, after work, I went to Berli's and went through a thorough step by step of the items that needed replacing and the process that would be required to get it back looking the way it was.
WHO WANTS TO GUESS HOW MUCH THE ESTIMATE IS FOR? I almost crapped my pants when I saw the amount, but hey, one way or another, it's going to get fixed and it wont be coming from my pocket.
The estimate was...get ready for it...$1088.45! Yowzas, but he damaged 4 different areas that require a lot of replacement pieces and then the doors would need to be removed to paint the area that was scratched so that's all labor costs right there.
I scheduled an appointment with another auto repair shop for Thursday since I'll need at least 2. I wonder what their estimate would be?
Anyway, that's the word on the street on my car situation. I've already filed a complaint at the BBB and reviewed them on Yelp & Yahoo.
