Sun down today marked the first night of Chanukah. Originally, we were going to drive up to Killeen and meet up with Steve's parents, but his dad was feeling good today and they decided to come down instead. We took them to Manny Hattan's so they could get Jewy things for breakfast...Steve and I both got latkes that were REALLY good! Afterwards, we went to Whole Foods so his dad could load up on his soy ice cream and soy cream cheese before coming back to the house to open gifts.
After they left, I made some toffee coffee cookies that came out funky, but were still tasty and watched 4 episodes of LOST. We had to go to 3 different Blockbusters before finding any DVDs for season 3--seems like other people are getting on the bandwagon before the new season starts next month :o)
At dusk, we lit the menorah that Steve's mom gave us (Steve couldnt find the one he had from Iraq) and Steve said the usual prayers. It was the first time we had lit candles in our house.
Happy Chanukah!
We each picked a gift for one another to open. I went ahead and gave Steve his main gift and he gave me one of mine. We were both THRILLED with what we got :oD
Steve got a
B60 Keurig coffee maker--the ones that brew individual cups of coffee.
Then it was my turn!
Steve got me a
Nikon SB-600 Speedlight for my camera!
Here it is attached to my camera <3
The newest addition to our kitchen gadgetry--my mixer and Steve's new coffee maker
brewing his first cup of coffee--it was actually quite tasty and I dont usually drink coffee either!
We each opened a gift early last night...I got a banana hanger/fruit bowl! I was SO EXCITED (sad, I know)! haha. Steve got a nice fluffy and soft robe :oD
After opening our one gift, we headed to
Katz Deli downtown for Malana's birthday! I had a craving for a reuben so I got that fix and Steve got stuffed cabbage. After dinner, we went over to Whole Foods where there's an ice skating rink on the roof. It was SOOOOOO COOOOOOOLD! It was really windy and in the 30's, but we still suited up and went skating. It got our blood pumping and didnt feel so bad after a while.
Steve lacing up
Not quite ready to let go...
Steve was a pro! He left me behind plenty of times.
There were a handful of people with us skating on this chilly night!
After a while, skating always hurts my feet!
We made it home and now we're just gearing up for one final week before our trip to MA :oD whoot!
One of my best friends, Hina, got married today in Pakistan, too. She called me while he was at the airport before boarding--I'm so thrilled for her even though I couldnt be there...
