Ash & Julie came to visit!

Nov 24, 2008 18:24

I seem to be hit or miss with updating LJ these days...sorry guys! But, a few things have happened so I guess I'll update about them :o)

Ash and Julie came up to our house from San Antonio on Thursday. Julie was actually working in San Antonio and Ash flew down Wednesday night. Steve took Thursday and Friday off, drove down to San Antonio Thursday morning and golfed with Ash while Julie and I were at work. When she got off, they got stuck in traffic and finally made it through Austin at 8:30pm. We had a late dinner at Saltgrass per Ash's request at 9pm...whew!

Friday, I had to work, so the 3 of them went golfing during a cold front that swept through Austin--I actually wore a coat! When I got off work, Ash was requesting chicken parm so we went to Gino's...a little italian restaurant in Round Rock that's seemingly always busy! Their oil/spices dippings for the bread was soo good--better than Carabbas!

After dinner, we killed some time at Target--I got a glob of marinara sauce on my white sweater so that was no good :o( But then it was off to the Alamo Drafthouse downtown to watch Master Pancake theater's rendition of Back to the Future!

Improv during intermission--Doc Brown and Marty McFly
Basically, it's just like Mystery Science 3K where they comment during the entire movie and it was HILARIOUS! I cannot tell you how many times Steve did his very high-pitched-laughing-so-hard laugh. We're definitely going to come back when Brian is in town for this :o)

The next day we slept in and went to get breakfast at the Original Pancake House. I decided to go out on a limb and order bacon pancakes. YES, BACON PANCAKES! They were freakin' awesome. Basically, it's bits of bacon cooked with pancake batter---YUM! The sweetness of the syrup and the savory bacon pieces were delish! Ash and Julie also enjoyed their pumpkin pancakes and french toast. Steve got Swedish pancakes which were basically crepes.

After that, we went to Ikea where I bought a duvet cover for $15 in a massive clearance bin--score! I also bought spice containers now that I've been buying spices in bulk...so much cheaper!

We then went back to the house to relax and ordered88 Minutes on-demand. It was ok--I fell asleep during part of it, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it a lot!

We went to Salt Lick for dinner where I got my usual ribs and sausage (yum) before heading down to Main Event. Jill limeystars do you ever remember Mr Billiards in Framingham? That's where Ash and Steve used to hang out all of the time so they were looking for a place to shoot pool.

When we arrived, Ash and Julie were in awe of how huge the place was. Julie wanted to play skee ball so we did the arcade stuff before shooting pool, playing shuffleboard, ice hockey, rock climbing and playing video games until 1:30am...fun times!

Julie & Ash

sleepy Steve & I--I think we won--it was a close game!

Steve then wanted to "work out" with this boxing game...remember this at Fun & Games, Smecky hoodwink?

Onward to the pool tables, where I wasnt as bad as I thought I would be! We still lost all 3 games against Ash & Julie though...

shuffleboard! I scored high, but then Julie would knock my puck off :o( booo

Usually, I've seen them play on the ground, but it's a long table with sand and you slide the lil' puck things across

LOOK AT THAT! That was all me :o) Cant get closer without falling over, but Julie ended up knocking that one off...waaaah

Ash & I decided to go rock climbing

Weeee repelling! I could only do the easy stuff..intermediate was TOO hard! But Ash finished a couple.
On Sunday, we slept in and had lunch at Red Robin before Ash and Julie headed back to San Antonio and fly back to MA. Ash LOVED the burgers there and was very impressed--he said it was a "must" whenever he visits TX again...lol.

After lunch, Steve went to softball practice and I did my Thanksgiving shopping. HEB was mobbed of course, but I managed to get everything I needed. $100 later, I left with my goodies! I still ended up going out to buy other Thanksgiving essentials like gravy boats, pie lifter and a flour sifter because OUR GUEST LIST HAS DOUBLED! Ohh the pressure...I'm nervous now.

Steve's mom called to ask if it was ok if Steve's aunt, uncle, cousin, his wife and their baby come to our house for Thanksgiving. We have plenty of food so we said of course and offered our place for Steve's cousin, his wife and their 1 wk old. I dont know what happened, but they were originally going to spend their Thanksgiving in Michigan, but now they're coming here. I just feel a little bit of pressure because I'll be replicating some of the same dishes that Steve's aunt usually makes--I should be ok...I hope...

But anyway, aside from planning Thanksgiving, I've taken onto magnet making. I spent 2 days and made almost 100 magnets and my plan is to eventually cover the fridge...lol. Steve's just happy I've found a new hobby :o) I cut things out from Vic Secret catalogs, Harry & David, Sports Illustrated, whatever's laying around...

3 row down, a lot to go...
I've also been wrapping a LOTof gifts because I'm pretty much done with my Christmas/Chanukah shopping! I shopped at the outlets and did the bulk of my shopping online so everyday, I'm getting packages and everyday, I'm locking myself in the craft room and wrapping gifts :o) I have 3 piles going on already sooo all we need is the tree up and ready so they can go under them. I let Steve peek at his gifts, but he's got no idea what I got him..muhaha!

Anyway, I gotta run since I'm meeting Misti misti_k along with some of her friends for Ladies Night at Melting Pot. There's also a raffle going on sooo we'll see if I come home a winner :o)

alamo drafthouse, crafts, friends, thanksgiving
