the weekend

This past weekend was a busy one! Friday after work, Lisa lkf03 and I went to Sabrina's brinaann apt for a game night. We were the first ones there, but it was not long before Anne and a few co-workers of Sabrina's came over. We snacked on veggies, chips and later ordered pizza. We didn't actually play any games, but ended up yapping for a few hours. Neither Lisa nor I had seen Anne for weeks so there was a lot of catching up going on, plus we got to chat a bit with Paula and Nancy.

Saturday I was supposed to go to an ab/core class at the gym with Veronica, but Roxy had texted me asking if I wanted to go play tourist in San Antonio. I called Veronica to let her know and she was very understanding--plus she hadnt been feeling well herself so it was all good. I picked up Roxy around 11ish and we headed down to San Antonio which is about 1 1/2 hours from Austin. We checked out the Alamo and while in the gift shop, Steve calls! Roxy got to say hi before I spent about 20 mins pacing the gift shop talking with him. The car that he wants had dropped $2100 in price so he was really happy--he's getting a 2008 Dodge Charger in black through the AAFES program and getting a great price for it.

After the Alamo, we walked to the Riverwalk and had lunch at Cafe Rio. I guess our eyes were bigger than our stomachs because after the appetizers, we were stuffed! We got to relax and digest when we went on a boat cruise to learn more about the history of the area. It was my 3rd time cruising around and I always enjoy it :o)

We walked around the Riverwalk some more before heading back to Austin. I called Lisa to see if she was interested in seeing the Congress Ave bats and having dinner at one of her fav restaurants, County Line. By now it was 6:30pm and we didn't have much time before sunset so I dropped Roxy off at her hotel, raced home to let the dogs out and feed them before jetting back out, picking up Lisa and Roxy and heading downtown.

The bat viewing area is right next to the Austin American Statesman and it was pretty busy! You usually can view the bats from under the bridge where there's a big, grassy area, or atop of the bridge. But on this night, the bats came out late and it was very dark and hard to see them from below. So, we made our way up top where we could see them much clearer. We stayed for maybe 30 mins before heading out for dinner.

Austin! With people on the bridge and down below waiting for the bats.

Some of the 1.5 million bats coming out of the bridge when we went to stand on top.
By the time we got to County Line, it was close to 9:30! Roxy and I both ordered a half rack of pork ribs and Lisa got her usual chicken and sausage. Since Lisa is on Weight Watchers, she was measuring out her portions and calculating her points with her meal while Roxy and I began to chow down. In the midst of eating, Lisa holds up a sausage with her bare hands, with a look of betrayal in her eyes asking me, "Did you put this sausage on my plate!?" She looked like she was going to bitch slap me with the sausage with the way she was holding it. Apparently after learning one sausage was going to be 9 points, she thought I had put another one down on her plate to tempt her with more points. I was VERY confused since I didn't order sausage and was like, "um, that's yours...I didn't order sausage." LOL. This turned into an amusing conversation and the running joke of the night.

After dinner, I dropped the gals off and slept a good 10+ hours that night. When I woke up this AM, I was still feeling very tired though. I drove down to Killeen to Angela's canadagirl where I helped her bake chocolate brownie and oatmeal raisin cookies for our husbands and prep chili for dinner in the crock pot. Leonie germangirl79 came by later for dinner and to hang out some before going back to study. The chili was very tasty, especially with the mini cornbread muffins that were made! I came home with plenty of leftovers :o)

Anyway, tomorrow's the start of another work week. These weekends just never seem to last long enough!

bats, weekend, roxy
