What's your style?

Jun 30, 2011 18:25

I had a conversation the other day that included talking about our sense of style in what we wear, and when we started wearing it, and such type stuff. I didn't really develop my own sense of style until junior or senior year in college.

Sometimes I wear something and somebody says, "That's so you!" and I haven't been aware of having a style. It's somewhere between laid-back and slightly hippie, I guess.

I'm pretty much hippy. I like comfortable clothes!

See now your poll doesnt include me too much. I cant afford my style. Given the coice I would wear Prada head to toe daily. with Louboutins. But I end up shopping at Walmart instead *siiiiiigh*

My preferred style is super chic and elegant and preferrably unique things that no one else but me can wear :)
But I dont have the money or the closet space.

I still remember flying to my internship at the Smithsonian wearing a hot pink silk dress, black stilletto pumps, and a little matching hot pink hat. I believe in college I actually owned and wore a hot pink pillbox hat with a veil to match that dress!

Working in the Loop everyday, I see so many fabulous outfits. And shoes!!! great shoes!

Yeah, there is the "style you would wear" vs the "style you can afford" issue! But you have such a great sense of what to wear and what suits you. I envied that a bit back in our college days!

What a nice thing to say! thank you!

I gave up on style for several years as I gained weight and worked all day in a basement where no one saw what I wore. But now Im trying to get my style back a little. I figure I can still try and look like I CARE what Im wearing even if whats in style these days is beyond me. And I am so happy to have a good tbrift store near me.

Be yourself and have fun with it, rather than worrying about what's in style. What's in style rarely seems to be flattering to anyone above a size two anymore, anyway. Your own style is more flattering to you than whatever anyone else says is in! Good thrift stores can be fabulous!

My college self would roll her eyes at me much of the time for making such terrible clothing choices, but at the same time I mainly like the same stuff. I'm just way less concerned with looking cool. LOL

OTOH, I no longer wear the long empire waist dresses that, much as I love them, don't do me any favors. I sometimes miss those dress + leggings + combat boots days.

Empire waist dresses look good on me. And I love them. Never did the combat boots, though!

That early 90's flowered-dress-with-combat-boots look was my favorite. ;)

I'm a roll of bed, grab the first pair of clean jeans and t-shirt I can find and yank my hair into a ponytail kind of girl.

Except when my daughter is being bossy and decides I need to be a "princess" and I end up in one of the, two, sundresses I own lol...anyone in a dress is a "princess" in her world.

I can just picture her ordering you around!

She has a bossy streak just like her mama! It usually starts as a question, "Mama, you want to be a princess with me?" When I say I don't want to be a princess it becomes, "Mama, you DO want to be a princess!" and she'll find and point to, or grab if it's reachable, one of my dresses and insist I wear it.

It's actually pretty cute most days, but some days she just gets told that the dress is dirty (whether it is or not) because I want my jeans! lol
