We've got irises this year!
We got a couple bulbs from Jim's mom the year we moved in, but too late in the season for them to bloom. But last year, they didn't bloom either. I was worried that I'd done something wrong with them. We got the leaves last year, but no flowers. But this year, we've got more leaves, and flowers are showing up, and even starting to open now! Yay!
These are descendants of irises that came from Jim's grandmother (and might go back to his great-grandmother, but I'm not sure about that), so they're an heirloom of sorts. Whenever we leave here, we'll take some of the bulbs and keep up the legacy. A pretty, growing heirloom is a nifty thing indeed!
Y'know, being in tune with nature is nice and all, but this spring I've gotten nasty sinus headaches whenever a storm system has come by. This is not fun at all. I love storms! I don't want to be in too much pain to appreciate them. I've had storm related headaches before, but not as frequent or as severe as I'm having them this spring.
I've begun a sorting and weeding of my clothing. I'm going to get through that this week. When I'm done, I'll let friends have first dibs on picking through the clothing, and once everyone who might want stuff has had a chance, the rest goes to goodwill or salvation army or something of that ilk. I weeded out sweaters in the fall, but never got around to taking them off, so there will be some of those, too. Not much to weed from Jim's, though there are a few dress shirts that he's never actually worn that should go in a donation pile, too.
I also need to do a bunch of mending on some clothes. I love the pants from Kiss of Color but the crotch tends to open at the seam way too easily. One of my new pairs has already done that. I'm going to sew them both up good and proper and reinforce it with iron-on patching. I've found that works on other light-weight pants.
Yesterday's baking went wonderfully smoothly. I love carrot cake, but it tends to get every bowl in the house dirty and takes extra prep time to grind nuts and grate carrots. But sooooo worth it! And the frosting was maple cream cheese frosting and was very yummy indeed.
Next weekend is the two-wedding weekend! Lots of friends around, including folks we don't get to see too much. Whee! Yay for love!
