Alas, my computer!
Not just the power cable thing, it was also starting to overheat. So I took it in to Beast Buy. They say it will take up to two weeks, especially if there are parts that need replacing instead of just soldering. The overheating issue is evidently just an adjustment rather than a part failing. And all my virus protection/spyware protection stuff is coming due anyway, so I'm going to have them de-install the old stuff and load up current versions of their recommendations. Cost is the same as regular renewal.
I'd been saying that I needed to spend less time on the computer. Now I'm stuck with it.
So I'm looking around at all the stuff I need to do (go through clothing, reorganize bedroom, go through jewelry, totally organize my office, etc. etc. etc.) and trying to figure out what to do first. Given urban_exotic's idea about a group swap of unwanted stuff followed by taking everything unclaimed to a goodwill type place right away, I think the bedroom stuff is taking first priority. Clothing and jewelry cleanout! And then I'll tackle the office and see if there's craft stuff I want to give away.
I will be checking at least once a day from Jim's comp, but I won't be online nearly as much as I usually am. I'm going to into withdrawal!
