Sorry we missed Dell's memorial. Y'know, it really sucks having to miss one memorial to go to another. It sucks that there's a reason to be in that situation.
If you smoke, stop. Seriously. Now. Not tomorrow. Now.
Roger's memorial was informal, consisting primarily of sharing memories of him. The minister had once owned a door company, so he was doing far more of the sharing memories than the reading bits of the bible type of stuff. He pointed out something that caught my mind. He looked through the other obituaries on the day Roger's came out. There were 46 of them. Roger was 58 years old. There was one man who was 90. Compared to him, it seems like Roger got cheated out of a lot of years of life. There was also a young woman who was 29. Compared to her, Roger had a long time.
It reminded me of Death in Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics. "You got what everyone gets. You got a lifetime."
Listening to stories about Roger. Reading and listening to stories about Dell. There has been a lot of laughter in and from those stories. I hope that when I'm gone, people will gather around and tell stories that make them laugh. There are far worse legacies.
life,
memories,
death
