Dr. Horribe and subversiveness

Something stuck out in my head this morning as I had yet another song from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog stuck in there. Joss has said all along that this was poking fun at the genre as much as anything else. It's also very clear, especially after reading the comic, that this is at its heart (among other things) a tale of jock vs. nerd. (Witness Captain Hammer encouraging folks to turn in anyone they know who is good at science and math, plus his comments about his physique, etc.) And Captain Hammer is clearly the jock (debate about how smart he may be aside).

So why then is there this line at the end of the opening song of Act III.
"This is his dry cleaning bill.
Four sweater vests!"

Sweater vests? One of the typical clothing choices of nerds in Hollywood (and sometimes real life). Four of them? I don't think that this is an accident on Joss' part. I wonder where he's going with this? Did Captain Hammer start out as a nerd, and that's why he hates them so? Is it his "Clark Kent" disguise? I wonder how many other people caught this? Discuss.

In other Dr. Horrible news, this is what turned NPH into Dr. Horrible, IMO.
