Syringe Fill Procedure
- Remove cap from solution
- Sanitize solution lid
- Remove spike from packing
- Attach spike to solution bottle
- Remove syringe from packing
- Sanitize spike valve
- Remove cap from syringe
- Attach syringe to spike valve
- Turn solution bottle upside-down
- Draw 1.5ML of solution into syringe, ensuring that minimal air is drawn into syringe
- Detach syringe from spike valve
Solution administration procedure
- Fill syringe as described in Syringe Fill Procedure
- Sanitize application valve
- Sanitize syringe
- Attach syringe to application valve
- Remove clamp from IV tube
- Slowly dispense syringe into application valve
- Re-clamp IV tube
- Detach syringe
- Dispose of syringe
Heparin Flush (every 8 hours)
- Administer saline via PIC valve as described in Solution Administration Procedure
- Administer heparin via PIC valve as described in Solution Administration Procedure
Medication Administration Procedure (every 24 hours)
- Remove medication from refrigeration 1 hour before administration
- Remove cap from end of medication syringe
- Remove cap from medication end of tubing
- Attach medication syringe to tubing valve
- Dispense medication into tubing until medication drips from opposite end
- Wait until medication has reached room temperature...
- Sanitize PIC valve
- Administer saline via PIC valve as described in Solution Administration Procedure
- Sanitize PIC valve
- Remove cap from PIC end of tubing
- Attach tubing to PIC valve
- Place medication syringe into pump
- Ensure that pump is set to Low speed
- Turn pump to On with Alarm
- Wait for alarm...
- Turn pump to Off
- Detach medication syringe from tubing valve
- Administer saline via tubing valve as described in Solution Administration Procedure
- Detach tubing from PIC valve
- Administer heparin via PIC valve as described in Solution Administration Procedure
- Dispose of tubing
- Remove medication syringe from pump and dispose of syringe
