Take David Duchovny as an ex-federal agent with a sidekick who is a redhead that chase after little green men and the first thing you think of? X-Files of course. This is NOT an X-Files movie! Julianne Moore makes a great redhead sidekick but is definitely not Skully and Duchovny is NOT Mulder in the slightest. While an outcast from his government days it was due to playing mad scientist and he is now currently a college professor. This is though a comedy so to top off the cast we can add in Orlando Jones and Stifler, I mean, Seann William Scott. As annoying as his character can be he really just portray the role of the bumbling idiot who thinks he’s the man perfectly. Dan Aykroyd(always plays politicians in spoofs nowadays) and Sarah Silverman(yum!) also help as supporting characters.

Stifler, ahem I mean Wayne, is out practicing to be a firefighter as his testing is the next day when out of the sky a meteor crashes into the earth. Duchnovy’s character, Ira, is sent with Orlando Jones. Harry, to go and investigate it. When aliens start to ‘evolve’ off of the microscopic organisms on the meteor at a rapid rate the government gets involved and of course at that point everything goes downhill. When’s the last time you saw any form of a sci-fi MOVIE (not show) where the government actually helps? I kind of miss the thought of that even being realistic now. Julianne Moore plays Allison, a government scientist who is trying to research if this is a health risk or not before the military shuts everyone down and the real alien threat begins. Ira and Harry with the help of Wayne spend all of their time trying to chase after the aliens and stop this from getting out of hand while at the same time avoiding the military who is trying to keep the incident contained. (Oh yes and of course throw in a sub-romance plot between Ira and Allison.) While not a full satire or spoof on alien movies at the time or X-Files there was still a lot of poking fun at the genre in a good way. I’m sure without Duchnovy and his work as Mulder this would not have been nearly as entertaining. At least the man doesn’t mind poking fun at his one big roll! (Don’t get me wrong. I loved his acting in Kalifornia and Playing God and can’t wait to see him on the new Showtime series that he’s in. Just let’s admit it. Mulder was his role for years and a huge success on top of that!)

If you were a fan of the X-Files and looking for a spoof of the show or just in general enjoy humorous sci-fi movies. This one’s a must get. I really couldn’t stop laughing throughout the majority of the film.
