Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs
I know trying to sell people on animated movies can be like pulling teeth. Futurama has always held a special place in my heart though. It’s a mixture of humor and science fiction that’s actually backed up (to an extent) by fact. The written unreadable language in the series is actually code, the scientific facts they spout or all actually valid, it’s insane. Sure the space ships, robots, etc are all far in the future but that’s where the show takes place so it works.

If you’ve watched the show at all you know that there is an intro at the beginning of every episode where they crash their ship into a screen showing a b&w cartoon. This happens as usual but this time we get a mini b&w Futurama cartoon that actually lasts about 5 minutes. (Done in the classic style of how people moved and acted in those ancient ancient cartoon times!) It was entertaining in that something different kind of feel though if they ever did a full episode in the style I don’t think I would keep interested.

Onto the second movie of Futurama itself though: it rocked. The original voice cast is back again and it starts off as if you were an episode in to a 4 episode mini-series. Fry is dating a girl and the entire plot evolves from the fact that he’s in love and she wants an open relationship. How can this tie into “The beast with a billion backs” you ask? Well when Fry is brokenhearted and a giant alien comes to offer him and the rest of humanity love.. he of course sells us out. The humor is once again top notch and when you throw in a subplot of Bender joining a League of Robots (that doesn’t exist) whose purpose is to kill all humans.

If you loved the series, you’ll love this. If you haven’t seen the first movie, it’s ok you’ll still love this. If you haven’t seen the series… start at the beginning and do it today!
