What do you have against goats? (San Francisco Con Report)

Jan 18, 2011 21:58

This was the first convention that I've ever done where I went in with ZERO plan.

Wait. Not true.

The plan was to have a weekend in San Francisco with crazydiamondsue while there happened to be a Supernatural convention going on.

Friday:

I missed everything. My flight arrived late in the afternoon and I took the BART to the hotel because I'm pretty comfortable navigating myself around the Bay Area, (oddly enough, not comfortable navigating myself around my own city that I've lived in my ENTIRE LIFE. Whatever) however, between talking to a man about my "accent", and texting people, I missed my stop and ended up in Walnut Hill, which was fine, just time consuming.

I spent the evening with phouka_h while we waited for Sue's later flight to get in, then we all hit a 24 hour diner. EXCITING. I KNOW.

Wait, there was a high point. After we left the diner some really drunk guy about 6 inches shorter than me goes "Hey, hey, you in the purple, I wanna take you out. I'll treat you real good, take you for shrimp and lobster."

Guess who has two thumbs and was the girl in purple? THIS CHICK.

Are you jealous? Be jealous.

Saturday:

Bought general admission weekend pass. This was a first for me. Kinda nice. Low pressure.

Aldis Hodge - is amazing. I adore this man. I try to always make his panel because he's just so much fun. He talked about playing the violin, so I asked him about his favorite piece to play and he geeked out about string music. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE strings, especially modern music adapted to string, which he talked about. He also talked about how the guys took him out on St. Patricks Day and got him drunk for his very first time ever. He also said he can bench 250 and I may have offered to have him put that to the test. WHAT?

Then someone asked him about the Hardison/Parker dynamic and he called Beth Riesgraf (Parker) from the stage but she didn't answer, he left a message about how he was at the con and we had questions for her and then had the audience say "hi". It was a cute moment.

Clif Kosterman - he talked about stuff with the guys, a few thing about an upcoming ep, a bit about Kim Manners, a bit about visiting the Vatican, then Sue asked Clif if his wife would knit her son a Jared wig (complete with sideburns) for Halloween. It might just happen folks.

Then I went for my photo op with Clif, which due to a series of events ended up being the only photo op I had taken.

Sue and I then went to eat at a really, really good Indian/Pakistan restaurant called Punjab. SO GOOD.

The Brian Buckley Band concert - Sue wasn't feeling well so she bailed on me. LAME but I forgive her because I love her. Jared and Genevieve introduced the band, Jared spoke mostly, like he does, until Gen teased him about his accent getting thicker as he spoke, he got flustered, tried to take his scarf off, attacked the mic with it which then bounced back and hit him. THIS WAS NOT EVEN SURPRISING.

The concert was really great. The band is one of those bands that performs amazing live. Their sound lends to live performance well, they actually have musical ability and the lead singer can not only sing with range, he plays guitar, has energy and is very witty between songs.

So here's where I ask for a favor: If you like me, if you like good music and think good bands should get exposure, or if you just like Jared Padalecki, please, please, please contact Creation Entertainment about booking the Brian Buckley Band for next month's convention in LA. You can email them at adam@creationent.com or tweet them at @CreationEnt

You can also find the band on Twitter @followBBB and on Facebook here: The Brian Buckley Band

Sunday:

Through a few misunderstandings of events phouka_h missed part of her Jared M&G and as a result ended up with her own personal assistant Gavin, this adorable boy with a South African accent that just started volunteering for Creation. He helped us carry her stuff and got her to her Jensen M&G on time.

Cute story: The day before phouka_h had missed her Clif photo op so they made it up at the end of the J2 duo ops. They had already taken Jensen away to get him ready for his M&G, so Clif and Jared switched places and Jared comes to stand near Gavin and me. He's about half a foot from me and is looking at one of the hanging banners really intently and I tell him: "What? You don't get see enough of yourself?"

And Jared turns and with this really innocent voice goes: "No, no, no! I wasn't looking at me. I was lookin' at Corin." He points to Corin Nemec's face. "That's a really, really cool picture of him."

I LOVE JARED PADALECKI TO PIECES.

As for the panels, you all have read the tweets and seen the vids. I would like to thank crazydiamondsue for wearing comfortable boots this time and staying in line with me throughout the entire panel and not ABANDONING me like she did in '07.

Note to fandom: Get some new material. It's tiring to hear the same questions over and over for the past 3 years. Additionally, it's a Q'n'A panel line, not a "Gush and tell you my fannish history" line. I'm sorry if I sound mean, but that's the second con in a row I haven't gotten to ask a question because people are STILL asking about pranks, if anything creepy/weird has happened on set and telling the guys they got their great-aunt's co-worker's son-in-law to start watching the show.

I'd also like to say, dear girl behind me,

You know who you are. You were 4 people behind me, which means you were 7 people from the mic, and that's only our side of the stage. Anyway, yes, you, you're the one that, after the panel ended and Jared began to talk about the charity he's supporting, ran to the mic, INTERRUPTED him and begged to ask a question because it was your birthday. You then proceeded to ask this oddly passive aggressive question about Dean being mean to Castiel and why and if that was going to change. First of all, let me tell you a secret: Jensen? Doesn't write the episodes. And secondly: you're rude.

Sincerely,
Me, the girl that was glaring at the back of your head so hard you felt it

ANYWAY. Autographs happened, I didn't have one but I was helping phouka_h and I had this really weird conversation with Jared about not selling my feelings until the market is better. You had to be there.

And then... BROCK KELLY

I repeat BROCK KELLY:

Attendance for Brock's panel was sparse. I think people got lost, because I can't think of another reason why people weren't at Brock Kelly's panel.

I got up to ask my question and told him that he's the only actor that makes me nervous (TRUTH) and that it's so bad that at VanCon in a fit of nerves I asked him about Ranch dressing. HE REMEMBERED ME. AND! He remembered that the correct answer is to hate Ranch dressing. BROCK KELLY FOR PRESIDENT.

I asked about pie vs. cake vs. beignet and like a good Louisiana boy he chose beignet.

I later asked him to dish about his basketball team. He chose the Hornets (valid), but I reminded him that New Orleans hasn't had them long and he copped to also liking the Lakers. BROCK KELLY WINS cityphonelines BINGO.

He talked about Colin pranking him. Apparently right before they went up to start shooting After School Special, Colin called him and told him they had re-cast Dean and that they'd chosen someone taller, buffer, better looking and A BETTER ACTOR (yes, Colin went there) than Brock. Brock said Colin carried it on for about 2 minutes before laughing.

And then Brock Kelly day was over.

After that Sue and I needed fresh air (she wasn't feeling well again and I had a headache) so we took a cable car to Fisherman's Wharf, looked at some art, ate some overpriced food, and then had sundaes from Ghiradelli that neither of us finished. Gluttony, thy name is an American on vacation.

I'm leaving out a lot, I'm sure, but this is long enough and you're bored enough.

Next month? I go to LA Con, come back and bore you again! EDGE OF YOUR SEAT EXCITEMENT.

my very own steel magnolia, brock kelly: professionally, jared padalecki is very disruptive, non-texas sports matter sometimes, don't mess with texas, cars 'n' condiments, my sue loves me
