PLOT UPDATE

AVATICA VS SOLINTH, END!:
In the middle of the heated battle, amidst explosions and gunfire and spells flying, it seems like not a sound in the world could bring it to a halt. And yet abruptly every communications device suddenly turns on and relays a transmission that proves otherwise.

At an hour like this...what could be so urgent?

His Majesty the King has been murdered.

[a quiet sound of surprise, echoed by others in the area]

Do you know what happened?

A knife to the heart. Isn't it interesting, you come here with talk of diplomacy, and His Highness is found dead.

You can't possibly think we'd-

I don't think- I know. Tell me, who do you know of with a knife of this make? [a pause before something thuds against wood] You can't tell me you haven't seen this before.

But that can't- [silence follows, the sounds of cloth shifting] Why...

Captain Knox couldn't possibly be responsible! Someone must have stolen that from hi-

[a sharp thud and a clink of armor, followed by a heavy thump]

Selene!

Dispose of these Avatican dogs and call the Council. His Majesty's death will be avenged.

[the last thing that's heard is two rounds being fired]

Details:
The conflict between Solinth and Avatica seems to have ground to a screeching halt due to the transmission. Only two voices were familiar, and only to those who got to know the Avatican captains. What befell Selene and Aaron after the audio cut off remains a mystery, but it seems like that detail isn't necessary to stop the fighting.

Weary soldiers on both sides seem to forget they're enemies as a newfound tension fills the air. Passers by might see rival troops minling, looking about uneasily and debating what to do. Their murmurs involve Vortis, and what seems to be a shared threat despite the declaration of war on Avatica alone.

Commanders on both sides issue orders to stand down that aren't needed, although they may be helpful to the foreign population. Within this unease and worry, Avatican and Solinthian leaders retain a troubled silence, and their indecision has a heavy presence in the air.

One thing is clear; there's a new threat on the horizon, and this war is over.

Might just be in time for a new one. In the meantime the city's a wreck again and the Vesperus is a blazing wreck where it crashed into the theatre, so once everyone catches their breath it might be time to rebuild again, or at least prepare for the next step.

But what is that next step?
