Oh, so... should I just wait for the guide? Kanda told me what this place is called and he named some names for me to contact, but otherwise, I still don't know much.

Well, unless you'd like to remain where you are and begin an hour long conversation about the basics, the guide would be a far more efficient use of your time. For now, you need to worry of obtaining residence and occupation. Speak to as many of the natural inhabitants as you can to boost your own morale and succeed at these missions.

Of course, I would have thought these most obvious. It is better to first act and later understand.
