I made a cheesecake today

I'm very proud of myself. I would post pictures, but it's already been somewhat ravaged by my family. It was very attractive, though, white lemon filling marbled with chocolate ganache. I had great fun poking it around with a skewer to get the nice swirly look to it.

11. Snuff - Terry Pratchett, 2012 (first-time reading)
I used to be quite a Discworld fan and I've been meaning to get this for a long time; a couple of weeks ago I was browsing around WH Smith with a £10 giftcard and saw it on sale for half price, so it seemed like a good moment to get round to it. To be honest, though, it was a massive disappointment. It read more like an amalgam of several other Discworld books rather than an entirely new one; I couldn't shake the feeling that every issue Pratchett was commenting on, every character he was exploring, even every joke he was making, had been extensively explored in every possible permutation in previous books. Oh, ha ha, Vetinari and his crosswords, how amusing; oh, racism is wrong and doesn't really make sense when you think about it, mmhmm, very true; oh, Vimes the street-kid-to-Duke is having trouble dealing with the strange new world of aristocracy, what an interesting situation. Seemingly, Pratchett has found a Discworld formula that works and is rigorously sticking to it, and there's only so long that that can stay remotely interesting.
