it's my birthday tomorrow!

I'm going out with my family tonight and my friends on Monday, and on Tuesday I'm hitting the road for my first driving lesson. After a year of watching all my friends turn seventeen and learn to drive this cannot come soon enough.

4. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith, 1943
Great book. It reminded me of The Help and I Capture the Castle - light and easy to read but with fairly deep themes. And reading all of them, as well, I had this great sense of comfort, like relaxing into a hot bath. I've been focusing so much recently on reading the tough stuff for English that it was wonderful to read something that's so happy and nice. Yes, yes, serious themes, poverty, hardship, political corruption, yes, but this is still one of the nicest books I've ever read. Every time you read some of it you will feel happy for several hours afterwards.

thoughts, 100 books
