Earlier this evening I was aimlessly watching bad TV with my father, both of us paying far more attention to our laptops, and then an organ donation advert came on TV and I asked him whether he was on the organ donor register. (He's not. I am.) This then prompted a ninety-minute-or-so, and fairly heated, debate on organ donation, euthanasia, abortion, whether cultural pressure renders free will useless, whether the government is a nebulous evil organisation trying to turn the world into 1984, what determines quality of life, whether money makes people happy, more euthanasia, and - most of all - whether life is inherently valuable in and of itself, and if not, what is.
This from a fifteen-second advert.
