Not even a fox to be seen yet, and it's not like they could go explore the woods not that Edmund even wanted to! when it rained every other day. The Macready would be sure to put them in the horse stables if they tracked in mud one more time- which is why Edmund would be sure to trip or something and accidentally push Peter into that big puddle that formed to the left of the big rose bush the next time Susan suggested some fresh air out of doors. He suspected it would be the day after tomorrow at the latest, though poor Lucy would have to stay indoors. Everyone knew it was bad to have a loon out of the house- something about how the open world spooks them or... or maybe that wasn't it at all. But Edmund found it sensible, since the little girl was quite comfortable inside a wardrobe. If the wardrobe was a world to her, well imagine how frightening the front yard would be! Why, it'd be like being shot out into the vacuum of space, and not even Edmund could bear that horrid treatment of her. No, no. Next time he'd make sure Lucy stayed indoors where she was safe.
It seemed his entire family was going loony- even Susan had started playing games instead of doing the sensible thing and try to escape this dungeon. And find a train back home and stay and fight for his country like they should. Well, like he should. Susan could stay with mother and make lunch. But Edmund wasn't stupid so he knew this would be harder than he thinks it- he had to drive that horse to the train stop, after all, and he didn't know how to ride but he could learn. So while the other three had gotten to sleep that night, Edmund wiggled out of the room shared with that dictator of a brother of his and began to wander the halls, looking for a way out of this old prison that wasn't as obvious as the massive front doors. Oh, and it was raining rather hard too, so it would be difficult to hear his footfalls. Wasn't he a clever little blighter? He'd only be cleverer though, if he had taken a candlestick with him.
