There's a new campaign to stop teenage girls being beaten up by their teenage boyfriends after a report came out saying 25% of teenage girls are victims of violence.

It sucks!

I'd never want to unfriend you ;) and certainly not over a difference of style on how to present an emotive and important issue like this.

It's probably more that I'm involved in enough groups where a bit of warning is the norm and knowing that it was unpleasant for me I'd suggest giving a bit of notice to anyone for whome it could be more immediately traumatic/triggering. But you are also 100% right that your blog = your rules. I've finally fixed most of the bit's that were broken in my soul over this issue and can generally deal with the issue without too many bad dreams.

Take my word for it though - not everyone involved in abuse prevention ignores female on male or for that matter same sex abuse although by God's I can see why you'd feel that way at times.

Same thing as the disparity between the spending/effort that goes into cervical/breast cancer as opposed to testicular cancer. To lighten what could be a gloomy conversation - imagine me having to show my new (a handfuly of years younger than me) boyfriend a video on how to inspect his tackle when this came up in conversation and he admitted he never did...I wasn't embarrassed but he was definitely right at the farrrr edge of his comfort zone.

The best contacts I've found recently are here for anyone who is a victim

and here

http://www.amsosa.com/

And if you've got any others I'd be delighted if you could pass them on I try to have contacts for this kind of thing on hand.

But you're right that resources should be there, wherever, whenever ANYONE is being abused - physical, sexual, emotional. Partner, parent, sibling. It shouldn't make a difference.

Until we can fix the world lets just try to fix what we can, when we can.

yeps - totally with you on the lack of blue ribbons for sale at the supermarket check out, corporate sponsored fun-runs, celebrities wearing t-shirts to raise awareness of male cancers. *shhhhh* maybe it'll go away if we don't mention it...

thanks for the links. I hadn't seen those before.

Apologies for my abruptness. There are mates of mine who have had a worse time and while they might be upset by my posting, there are many more that would never have considered it an issue - because it's never talked about.

To be fair, they also know my style which, I confess, can be seriously offensive at times. I accept that some of the groups you're in have rules, unspoken or otherwise. As you can tell, this place doesn't abide by any rules other than people shouldn't cuss out anyone other than me - I'm the only viable target for flaming, here, and I'll stand by all of my LJ friends against anyone else.

Back on thread - What we're doing is talking about it - and that means by me posting something, you've added links that'll help some of us try and make sense of a few things

Thank you :o)

ps - checking your fella for him can be a fun and intimate bonding thing... like you didn't know that already lol :o)

I've been wrestling with putting my post behind a cut

I'm sorry - I just can't compromise how I feel.

Thank you for challenging me.
