Faces. Nobody’s is flawless. Some girls get really lucky genetically and some girls care for their skin every day - but not one of them is born 100% perfect. While many of our natural facial flaws are just life’s way of making us unique, sometimes we want to hide what our parents have given us naturally and what our environment has done to us over the years. The right concealer can hide just about every imperfection and knowing how to choose and apply concealer properly will help give you the look of beautiful skin. Here are a few ideas to help you out.

Types of Concealer
  • The Pencil: This is the concealer that comes in a long, pencil-shaped tube and is specifically designed for skin that is not too oily or too dry. Just keep it in your purse, dab it on, and go.
  • Liquid or Cream: This concealer is best if your skin is dry. When you use this type of concealer on dry skin, it absorbs the extra moisture and gives your face a nice, smooth, flake-free look.
  • Mineral Powder: This concealer is best for people who have combination skin (or that oily t-zone everyone talkes about). Powder concealers absorb the extra oil in your skin and look great on balanced non-oily skin.

Choosing the Right Concealer
  • Always purchase make-up where you can test it first.
  • If your shade is in-between, you can mix two liquid concealers to get the right color. Just place a dab from each on the side of your hand by your thumb, mix with your finger, and apply.
  • Undereye concealer should be a shade or two lighter than your skin or your foundation.
  • Concealer for the rest of your face should match your skin exactly.

Application is Everything
  • Before you apply concealer, you must first prepare your face. Apply any eye cream or gel you might prefer to your undereye area to get rid of puffiness and apply moisturizer to the rest of your face to help the concealer adhere to your skin without slipping. Even if your face is oily, a light moisturizer will ensure your skin is hydrated, so don’t miss this important step. Allow a few minutes for these creams to soak into your skin before continuing.
  • Start with your eyes. Place a few small dabs under your eye and blend from the inner corner of your eye to the outer corner.
  • Cover facial blemishes like freckles and beauty marks by dabbing on a dot and blending in small, circular motions.
  • Be especially careful when applying concealer in the lip area because it can interfere with the natural color of your lips. You don’t want to look washed out - unless you’re going for that ultra-chic “dead” look.
  • When all is said and done, and your concealer looks awesome, follow up with any foundation, eye make-up, lip make-up or blush your prefer. If you’re using a liquid or cream concealer, wait a few minutes for it to dry up a bit before continuing.

So there you have it! Everything you need to know about finding the right concealer and covering your facial flaws. If you have any tips or trick of your own, please share them with us by posting a comment at the bottom of this article. Until next time, stay beautiful!
