Growing up many kids tease each other with horrible names just because of that ultra-fab, and uber-unappreciated, accessory we know as eyeglasses. Never you mind those silly taunters though, many people secretly find glasses attractive and, especially as you get older, you will increasingly find more and more people who dig that “geeky chic” look you may have formerly been ashamed of. Eyeglasses are fashionable and sexy, can enhance your look, flatter your face, and even add a little extra spice to a particular ensemble. But how do you pick the right frames for your face? Here are some great tips to keep in mind when shopping for your next set of eyeglasses.
There are three basic elements to consider when choosing eyeglass frames: color, size, and shape. Each element will be unique to your personal fashion style, face shape, and lifestyle - so don’t go getting the same frames your best friend has becuase not only does it makes you look totally lame for not being an individual, but it might look really bad on your face when it looks straight out awesome on hers.
- Frame Color:
The frames do not need to match the color of your hair, but should complement the color of your hair, eyes and skin tone.
- Frame Size:
Frames should be to scale with your face, for example - smaller frames for a smaller face. You dont want your glasses to overpower you face, you simply want them to compliment your face.
- Frame Shape:
The shape of the face need to be taken into account when selecting the frame shape. For example, a round face would look best with square frames and vice-versa. You also need to consider you lifestyle. If you have a very active life (or happen to be a generally sloppy person) it’s probably not a good idea to buy the most delicate frames you can find. That is, of course, unless you plan on replacing them.
Eyeglass frames come in a wide variety of styles, shapes, colors, and prices. Try on different styles of eyeglasses to see which best fits your face. The optician can help guide you toward the type of look you are trying to achieve. For example, if you prefer to eyeglasses be minimally noticed, then choose thin wire rims, or rimless frames. For a bolder look, try plastic frames. Have fun with your style!
