A Rumor...

If it's true, it could be...interesting.

As somebody said after my initial post in that thread, it's the most concrete hope we've had of the game's recovery.

SOE may have made an offer to keep it dead, though, because they own DCUO and may not want the competition.

I really want things to work out, but I also don't want everyone to get their hopes up too high, y'know?

As several people pointed out, CoH and DCUO don't really have the same crowd playing it. And adding another station pass game that has an established player base may be very appealing to them.

What jdotmi said, with the addition that the previous times SOE acquired MMOs from outside (The Matrix Online, Vanguard), they didn't do so in order to bury those IPs, so I'm remaining optimistic. The main entity keeping my hopes realistic is located in Gangnam.

There's always the third horrible possibility--they acquire the IP with the database intact...then turn the game to crap to fit *their* vision.

To quote Optimus Prime: "A monster! They turned me into a monster!" (especially appropriate considering he was revived from being dead at the time...)

One thing does tickle my funny-bone, though. On reading that thread, one thing that probably *is* likely to happen if they get the game is that they're going to reduce the server count. Considering that CoH virtually wrote the book on alt-itis, trying to merge this sort of thing could end up a major headache, so it's also possible they'd wipe things and start over, characterwise.

The reason this amuses me is that to a degree creating an alt is starting over anyway (unless people are running crafting mules and swapping stuff over to the alts--I dunno, since I didn't get the chance to get *that* invested in the game). So a character wipe isn't so much 'losing' your old characters...it's providing you a bunch of empty slots waiting for new alts! ;-)

And since I got a spam-label warning on that... post #235 on that thread. :-/ Oh well.

I don't know why it does that. I've set this community not to do that and I swear it changes when I'm not looking.

Also I don't know how to fix it so your link shows since I can't even access the comment. I'm sorry.

But if it's what I think it is, then a representative of SoE said over twitter that a buyout of CoH by SoE was only a rumor.
