The new, NEW Circle of Thorns

Aug 09, 2011 17:44

So, we've seen the updated Circle of Thorns, and a lot of us has hated them.

But never fear! The devs have updated them again, after hearing our outcry!

Well, it's better then the last version, still not sure why they want to make such drastic changes though.

Because the Circle models are old and, while great in concept, ugly compared to the other, newer ones, and for a group that's encountered 1-54, too. Further, they want to make as many of those pieces available to players as possible, which means, no more hacks with the old robes.

All these years, I'm yet to figure out why they hate the leg-concealing robes, and insist on short skirts or those weird cutaway skirts/robes for everybody. Not once have I seen a Thorn or Tsoo or Lich or Carnie do anything in a long robe and thought "That's hideous. They've got to fix that. And, by all that's good, keep players from ever doing it."

Because those same robes start screwing up something major once hooked up to the wide angle of motions that players do. The most common stated reason is Martial Arts. The fact the robe's hem stretches from inches to feet is easy enough to miss on a Sorcerer who doesn't move around much, but not if you see your character do a Dragon Tail every twelve seconds.

Exactly this reason. It's easy to give restrictive garments to an NPC with limited motion but there's no way to compensate for the extreme variety of motions available to players.

Plus, there's the fact the mobs we only see, well, briefly. I was surprised how low-res and sometimes ugly some great-looking NPCs were when we got the Halloween costumes.

And because aforementioned Martial Arts players would still gripe up a storm if the costume creator said "No, you can't use that piece!" if the rest of us who don't do those animations could use it.

It's hardly just martial arts. It's also emotes, cutscenes, reactive animations, and all the little things you don't see on stuff that isn't glued to the middle of your screen.

IMHO, I never thought the old CoT costumes to be ugly, in fact quite the opposite. They were unique and my preferred enemy to fight because there were so many different variations on the costumes and the groups ect.

Now as costume pieces for us, yea, I like them but, though much better then the first rendition of the new costumes, I think I still prefer the old CoT robes. These are really flashy for a group that, are essentially old revived corpses and live in dank dirty caves, but thats just me.
