Vote on Consolidation of the communities

Aug 02, 2011 23:18

So, the mods have been mulling this over a while, and we believe it's time to bring the issue up and get community input.

The CityofVillains community sees less and less use as time goes on, and even the last handful of co-op events haven't seen any crossposting ( Read more... )

I vote for consolidation with a caveat: heavy usage of cut tags. Folks have been pretty good, but if everything is going to go in one place, unless the post is only a couple lines long, it NEEDS to be cut, and it needs to be an enforceable rule.

Totally agree with this.

Have... the posts to the other communities been unusually large?

As I said, "Folks have been pretty good"... but putting everything in one place means there's more posts happening in that one place - granted, the other communities were somewhat stagnant, but being allowed to place everything here in one central area means the other posts are likely to start happening more frequently - and it needs to be an enforceable rule instead of just "courtesy".

Alright now, let's reign in the attitude. Don't provoke other posters.

Thank you for the troll, but it was a pretty bad attempt. It is a courtesy to cut long posts, and in a community where we are going from four comms (one of which is active, two of which are stagnant, and one of which is in between) to one comm (which means posting content related to the other three comms will likely increase) it should be in the rules list in case it gets out of hand - also known as planning ahead, which may or may not be needed.

Your suggestion of cuts is reasonable and the mods work on a guideline/rule of thumb for it when posting. Now let's end this line of discussion before attitudes get out of hand.

I support a rule on LJ-cuts for posts containing images or many paragraphs of text, but I disagree that a consolidation is going to mean "more posts" and thereby require a rule that ALL posts be LJ-cut. If the reason for consolidation is that the other communities are experiencing nearly zero activity as of late, why would we suddenly expect a large volume increase in the post count to this community?

Note: I never once said all posts.

edited: I said "long posts" and "posts that are more than a couple lines long". Generally, the same fashion that people have been lj-cutting already but with an enforceable rule in case someone decides to be a twat about it, in which case a mod can step in and point at the rules. The likelihood of someone being a twat about it is pretty low; the City folks are by and large fairly good-natured people. But it happens to every community once in a while.

Well, I confess, I was taken a bit aback by 'a couple lines' because I took that to mean, well, two lines. But I'm reckoning now (after reading this comment) you just meant more than a handful, which is a totally accurate term of accurateness.
