Varying merit rewards by TF length didn't work to get people to run something other than $OPTIMAL_TASK_FORCE over and over, so they're being more explicit?

That's pretty much the theory I came up with, too.

*shrug* They're not holding a gun to your head. You can still run the FOTMTF if that's what you prefer and get the usual rewards. I'm not really seeing a gigantic downside.

Well, I think it's less about "because we feel like it" and more because they wanted a way to limit how rapidly we could collect Very Rares and they didn't want to do it with a timer system like they used for Alignment Merits.

I'm less worried about seeing Positron TF get the focus flash than I am that they'd pick one of those 8-hour Shard TFs, actually.

Maybe they will revisit those god awful things?

"People were finishing them too quickly, so now they automatically get the 'no travel powers' challenge applied."

Seriously. That might just make it worth doing.

Not in one sitting. My butt can't repel motionlessness of that magnitude.

Mostly because it would go numb.

That's a lot of rolls with A merits...

Think of it as a sneak peek system. It's not a punishment for refusing to run the dev-choice TF, it's an early bonus that requires a little hoop-jumping.

And, frankly, the alpha slot is so meta-game to start with that Ramiel's explanation spiel at the end of his arc as much as admits to it. :)
