Just saw an e-mail about Champions Online going to a no-subscription "free play" format in 2011, where players can play for free and buy "enhancements" to the play experience on an a la carte basis.
I hope CoX won't pursue a model like this. Just imagining it puts the same bad taste in my mouth as the way the airlines now nickle and dime for luggage, snacks, pillows, and legroom.
