I'm looking outside, and suddenly I'm overcome by the need to take a picture and somehow capture this moment of utter tranquility. It's that time of day where the snow shovelers haven't come out yet, the little kids are still indoors, and the lawns are footprint-free. Everything is just silent, except for the sound of the snow speckled trees swaying slowly in the wind.
For those of you who know me well, I am definitely not the type of person who loves to frolic in the now, simply because I never became accustomed to the cold, being the desert baby that I am. However, sometimes I'm just struck by the pure beauty of snow...it's natural ability to cover all the imperfections around us - even the most unkempt lawns look beautiful when blanketed in snow.
Oh the not-so-happy side of it all, this snowstorm is going to be pretty useless in terms of reaping rewards (AKA delays or snowdays), since it seemed to hit during school, and will most likely end early enough for those snow plowers to keep me awake all night.
I've decided that in spite of my two research papers and the thought of impending work in the future, I am going to make a reading list of all the books I have wanted to read during this year, but never had time for. I plan on getting through them by the end of Senior Options. I have already started Brick Lane by Monica Ali, which I got this weekend. So far, so good. I'm afraid its heading doing the path of predictability, however.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
Empire Falls by Richard Russo
Running with Scissors: A Memoir by Augusten Burroughs
Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi
These are just a few I can't wait to start, the dork/bookworm that I am :)
So, now, we are thinking of perhaps Montreal for Spring Break, simply because it may be cheaper than doing the one-fun-thing-a-day deal. Let's see how that goes. I'm still up for Boston or something. It would just be nice to get away. At first, I thought we'd be content with NYC everyday, but we can do a lot in the summer. Not to mention, my Senior Options is in Manhattan, as well as my future school (which by the way was rated America's "Dream School" *beam*).
My aunts came today :) It was so nice to see them again. Linda bought me 483483438 DVDs from the "old country" - including Paap and Tum. There's another quality waste of time on my hands! Yay!
Time for more primary source notecards.
I wonder if there's any hope for a snowday tommorow . . .
