I'm back from three weeks of learning at the Bullock's Homestead on Orcas Island. I ate my breakfast on the porch, observing my landscape and seeing layers upon layers of elements that were invisible to me before: my city block is a deep, almost vast expanse of untapped potential.
I'm going to get some winter greens started this week.
I'll find a way to get some perennial edibles in--something delightful for the next tenants to enjoy. (Suggestions are welcome. What would you be delighted to find, already growing and ready to eat, when you moved in to a new place? It needs to be able to have it's own little microsystem in which it mostly cares for itself.)
Fruit trees in the right of way, in a guild planting.
And I'm going to talk to the neighbors.
