I think I want a pair of powder skis to go with my carving skis, cause Cali gets powder. But Jimbo (007, The Master) just dragged me through some up at Tahoe today, and I'm not sure how much good wider skis are going to do me at my skill level.
I like carving better, but since I decided no more day trips where I drive, (up at 5am + 3 hours driving + 6 hours skiing + 3 hours driving = very tired) I'm mostly going with other people. Going where other people go. And people like powder. Or, the people worth following like powder. It is so tiring, like fighting the Ocean. But I switched to snowboarding because I couldn't become a better skier on my own, and following through challenging terrain is one way to do it.
As for the snowboard, I think the act of riding is a bit more fun than skiing. I thought I'd gotten a twin tip board, makes riding switch easier, but apparently its directional. Yes, those symmetrical looking things called snow boards have a direction, and most riders can only go one direction. Regular or goofy, left leg front, or right leg. Learning it all at the same time is good. Then you don't end up having to totally relearn everything after you thought you had it all down.
Interesting fact, I get more burning muscles from skiing, and more pulled muscles from snowboarding.
And none of my boots fit right. Your foot should not move. no up down, no left right.
We went to Alpine Meadows and Homewood. I've never been to either of them before, and they are nice. Smaller less crowded, but nice runs. Of course, good snow helps (thank you storm gods). The others were right, the black diamonds at Northstar are blue squares a lot of other places.
