my most British icon for this glorious post~chargasmApril 18 2011, 14:48:25 UTC
Laurence Rickard in Horrible Histories omg ♥
"That is not how you fuckin spell 'pyjamas'" and "mad mouth parts" and "a spider is a spider" and "my grandparents are dead!" and "MY FUCKING FIST" ahahahaha I may never stop laughing. Also I think I may do that voice meme! It sounds very amusing.
THE ROYAL WEDDING VIDEO. YES. YESSSSSSSSS. BRILLIANT.
gfdfghbgfdfgvb they way Tom Hardy says "anything" at the end of that last video makes me laugh so much. He's fantastic. (He's also in Bank of Brothers jsyk~)

Dammit I embedded the wrong part of that Inception interview :( I mean, all of it is blates epic (especially Tom's "ANYTHING" which, oh dude, he is totally my favourite) but part 4 (which I've now edited the post to contain, lol) has him monologuing at breakneck speed about different directors like he has SO MUCH knowledge of French cinema that he CAN'T WAIT until he's finished one sentence to start the next. OH T-HARDS, BRUV, YOU ARE FABULOUS. (And Charrr I can't even deal with the knowledge that he's going to pop up in BoB soon. I need to get my brother to find his DVDs, like, yesterday!!)
The accents meme is really good, like, I can rarely distinguish between the various US accents, but when the differences are highlighted by something like this it's really interesting. And the dialect words! Like 'Paki two-bobs', I mean it's obviously really offensive but that's a piece of social history right there. Yay language nerdery :D

unfff I love your Inception icons so much. Aha now I've seen part four... oh T-man. He's wonderful. (in BoB Tom Hardy has a sex scene, is that incentive enough for you to get to episode nine???)
I'd not heard of the term 'Paki two-bob' before. It's astoundingly offensive but just goes to show how much language changes!
Also I thought you might care to know~ next year I'm going to be doing a module on post-Roman Celtic Britain to make up my credits, a choice that was largely inspired by you! ♥

T-HARDS SEX SCENE WHAT. I'll be in my bunk over the very thought tbh~
Post-Roman Celtic Britain sounds exciting but OMG I hope you don't hate it and then hate me D: I would probably struggle with it bc history is not my strong point (I don't even have a GCSE in it), but our academic sides obvs have different strengths, so OMG get it girl!
Funnily enough our ~academic paths cross~ in my head too bc I keep thinking of you while I'm doing my Foundation for Study in the Arts module... Like, I think my final essay is going to be on Plato and Marx, and when I read all the Platonic philosophy stuff I am like I BET CHARL WOULD UNDERSTAND THIS and when I read the Marx stuff I'm like I BET CHARL WOULD AGREE WITH THIS. (Not that I disagree with Marx, it's just I'm too underinformed to have Opinions about most stuff.)
Anyway, does that mean you found out you can definitely switch to Philosophy? Or are you still waiting to hear?
Re: my most British icon for this glorious post~chargasmApril 19 2011, 18:38:44 UTC
He's terribly young and beautiful and naked in Band of Brothers. Good times.
I'm sure I won't hate it, I always had a bit of a hard-on for ancient history even as a kid (especially the ancient Egyptians and Romans) so this is actually a pretty awesome opportunity! I don't have a history GSCE either, but I'm sure I'll be fiiiiiine.
Oh that's awesome :D I really do not like Plato tbh, luckily I don't have to do much about him in second year. Aha yes it's lucky we didn't have a seminar on Marx this year, or I would have outed myself as a bit of a commie (oh who am I kidding with 'a bit'. I'm such a Marxist I think it disturbs my Westcountry middle-class family sometimes, haha)
Well I can switch providing I pass this year! Which means I need to do lots of work for my summer exams, then lots of work for my retakes (since I failed everything in January). And then I will be able to go back to uni in October and just start Philosophy straight away. I have been provisionally accepted onto the course, so long as I pass my maths :I

Haha, I'm not sure I like Plato much either, but IDK I suppose I'm going for the time period I'm most familiar with? And the Cave is such a strong (I was going to say 'simple' -- lol no, complicated but emphatic) idea that it's easy to think about it. Same with Marx, actually. One of the reasons I didn't want to do Foucault even though his ideas are really interesting to me was that JESUS FUCK he is rubbish at expressing himself in simple terms.
Oh, yay! I'm sure you can pass if you put your mind to it, especially knowing that then it'll be ALL PHILOSOPHY ALL THE TIME. Which sounds awful to me, but then SO DID MATHS AND PHILOSOPHY so what do I know about your degree programme xD
Re: my most British icon for this glorious post~chargasmApril 20 2011, 12:16:39 UTC
No I know what you mean, the Cave is a really meaty analogy, there's lots to discuss. It's just that I don't really like the idea of an ~unchanging realm of the Forms, and all that goes with it. Aha, Hume's like that, he uses so much flowery language he's really difficult to read.
'All philosophy all the time' will definitely trump having to do maths sometimes.
ACTUALLY I SHOULD BE REVISING NOW BUT, YOU KNOW. I'm still at this stage in my revision process:
