I've been using LJ for two years now, although, you wouldn't know it from my miniscule volume of posts. I started out deciding that "component" was the best default style available. In that time, I've taken several cracks at trying to figure out how to further customize it using LJ's "s2" language. The language itself isn't hard - it reminds one a lot of perl, and is actually compiled with a parser that's written in perl. However, I was dumbfounded with how to find where to put the code to begin with.
It turns out, however, that there's a good reason that I wasn't able to find it. It was intentionally hidden from view! I could override the code in my own "layer", but that doesn't help much, if you can't see what you're overriding. But, with much dap to
azriona for unintentionally spurring me to look again, I found that one of the lj people posted up
the full source of the "component" style, albeit over a year ago. Now, I'm able to get cooking!
My first order of business was to get the dividing lines out of the "links" section. That was driving me bonkers. (It's always the little things.) Now that it looks like a proper group of link references, I can add some more actual links, and it'll look good! Yay!
I might do more wildly interesting things with the page soon, and maybe I can then even help others out.
