More nerding out about Digimon movies

And no, this time it's not about Children's War Game-- I'm talking about the original flavor, even older-school FIRST Digimon Adventure movie and the teeny tiny little Digidestined who are so adorable aaaagh where do I even begin?

Like everything Digimon-related, I can't resist talking about the dub too, because I STILL LOVE IT shutup.

Taichi is such an awesome little-kid big-brother! He cooks eggs, he defends his sister from strange creatures, he defends strange creatures from cats, and he's so adorable asdskafadghgah. Hikari is equally awesome with her innocence and sweetness and whistle and LITTLE KOALA JAMMIES!

Ahem. It's actually amazing to to me that the dub didn't really try to change their sibling dynamic very much (discounting Narrator!Kari, I suppose). Tai never really comes off as being a more obnoxious, teasing, or insulting brother than Taichi, which seems like an obvious change to make their relationship a little more stereotypical and/or relatable to the 10-12 boy demographic. Thankfully the dub writers didn't try to go that way; he obviously cares deeply about his sister in both versions, and that's sort of a rare and beautiful thing. I like the characterization of both Taichi and Hikari: they both have their little-kid aspects, but all things considered, they are really fairly mature for their ages (which are... what exactly? Seven and three? I think that's in the dub only; they look like they should be younger). I love how both Taichi and Hikari show themselves to be strong, independent, and relatively level-headed despite all of the bizarre things they are introduced to, and how those qualities carry through the rest of the series.

Yeah Miko, you defend you food from that blobby pink thing. I freaking love Miko, but that's another post for another day. Also: I can't hear Rockafeller Skank without thinking of this movie and I can't see how that's a bad thing!

ALL THE CHOSEN CHILDREN ARE SO CUTE I CAN'T EVEN. Honestly, I don't think I mind the dub's (inconsistently applied) decision to have the kids sort of know each other before they end up in the Digital World together. On the one hand, the original obviously handled them getting to know each other well. On the other hand, I love imagining the pre-digi interactions and occasional playdates between all the kinders. It kind of ties in with my headcanon fantasies in which of all of the digimon moms were friends while they lived in Heighton View Terrace, and they formed a bridge club. You KNOW they'd drag their kids along and make them play together! But really, all the movie dub really tells us is that Tai knows Sora and Mimi, and Joe knows Mimi and Izzy. Regardless, SO MANY ADORABLE HEADCANON SCENARIOS.

JYOU WHO ARE YOU GIVING THE PLAY BY PLAY TO you're so adorable

In the dub, I'd like to think that Izzy and Mimi are sort of rolling their eyes at him like "YEAH JOE WE SEE THE CRAP GOING DOWN OUTSIDE geez"

Wee little Mimi! I like to think she has a bazillion costumes and princess dresses and always makes people play dress-up and have tea parties with her and they always do it even if they don't wanna and she's friends with every kid in the apartment complex XD

Super Ishida Brothers! Pre-divorce! Sharing Binoculars! Eeeek!

Can I just say Sora has the most adorable haircut? I'd like to think she likes sports and bugs and mud pies and playing rough with the boys and she's basically the polar opposite of Mimi but the two of them are still really good friends (as evidenced by Mimi tattling on Tai about him throwing up in her hat).

Lastly, one of my favorite Tai screenshots <3

GOOD TIMES!
