Failblogging

Oh hi, LiveJournal. Feels like it's been a while. Real life's been busy, and while that hasn't stopped me from having the normal quantity of Miscellaneous Fandom Thoughts, I sort of lost the motivation to try to put together any sort of coherent blog posts. So here's something in the way of an update/mind dump while I try to get back in the habit of being an opinionated fangirl.
  • Still watching (and squealing over) the new TMNT. I definitely have Things To Say about it, but I'll save that post for another day.
  • Fanarts are pretty much on hold while I work on some personal projects. I miss drawing fluffy Tai hair the most! -_-
  • Was able to get a bit of writing done over Thanksgiving break. Still have writer's block over my "serious" Frontier fic, but maybe I can actually finish that Sailor Moon/Little Prince hybrid before the end of the year (the last chapter was never going to be *great*, but at least it'll be *done*).
  • The day I got both Digimon and Medabots DVDs in the mail was a good day. Man, I have plans for my Digimon rewatch, but those are unfortunately at odds with the whole "doesn't want to blog" and "doesn't have time for fanart" thing. Hmmm.
In other news, I'm wading about waist-deep through Fallout 3, currently trying to map out a path to Rivet City. It's a fun game, once I got past jumping a mile every time I got attacked by a big freaking bug or ghoul or what-have-you. The universe is really interesting-- I dig the whole 1950's gee-whiz/Cold War attitude persisting through to an actual nuclear war, plus the sheer amount of detail put into this game-- I've spent some time in the real DC and it is just plain creepy walking through the ruins of the in-game Metro. I really like the ironic soundtrack, adorable Vault Boys, the fact that you take radiation damage, limb damage, have to deal with weapons/armor degredation-- OK, the last three are just my love of survival-type settings kicking in again. I guess if you play on Hardcore mode you also have to eat, drink, and sleep regularly or you suffer status effects, but I'm not quite that committed to a more authentic post-apocalyptic experience. On a not-really-related note, I recently heard you can style hair using beer, and based on the abundance of beer bottles and the lack of hair spray in this universe, it's totally my headcanon that most stylin' of the Fallout ladies do the same thing to keep their bobs (or mohawks) in shape.

Anyway, my Vault 101 exile is named Celeste, who was a fairly naive idealist growing up, but is gradually becoming more savvy and realistic the more time she spends in the Capitol Wasteland (although I'm most definitely still in the "goody-two-shoes" camp). The best part so far was getting the Black Widow perk and using my Feminine Wiles to convince Mr. Burke that he didn't want me to blow up Megaton-- he's sent me two love letters since then. YAY FOR CREEPY BOYFRIEND! As soon as I get my lockpick skill high enough, I'm going to break into his house and steal everything that's not nailed down :D

Phew. OK, that's enough out of me from now. I can't think of a clever or comprehensive way of ending this post, so I'll just say "talk at'cha later!"

vidya games, miscellaney
