In which Citrus demonstrates excellent timing
So, I step away from the Internet for a few weeks and BOOM! Two HUGE news items that are very relevant to my interests.
First, an official Digimon Adventure Region 1 DVD release. I never thought I would see the day. SO. FREAKIN. EXCITED. Yes it's dub-only, because there never was an official sub of season 1 and no release can contain both versions because there would have to be two copies of the video, but to this I say OH WELL-- bring on my beautiful cheesy dubbins! The only really selfish desire I have for this set is special features--- Fox Kids promos, legitimate voice actor bloopers, an interview with Jeff Nimoy and/or Bob Buchholz-- I want it to WALLOW in its English version-ness. I ain't getting my hopes up, but if it did happen, it would be great. Of course, if the set sells well (which, at nearly $80 and for dub-only, I'm not terribly sure of), we can look forward to more seasons, or a release of all the movies maybe?? Any of which would be SO AWESOME.
My only real concern right now is that the listed distribution company doesn't have anything about this up on their website, so I really hope it's legitimate. Still, you can bet I'm saving the date for October 9!
Second, animated Sailor Moon remake airing in 2013? Holy cow! This I feel a little more trepidation about-- I do love the old-school anime, and now that I have some first-hand experience with the manga, I feel partial to a lot of the embellishments and changes the anime made on the original story, particularly in regard to the villains. Then again, with all of the live-action versions that have been done through the years, it's not like Sailor Moon is exactly new to the remake scene. Considering how many versions there are, it will be interesting to see what they choose to adapt for this go-around. Assuming they start with the Dark Kingdom arc, my personal wish-list includes the Nephrite/Naru and Kunzite/Zoisite relationships, a little more detail Queen Beryl's past life and her infatuation with Mamoru (I do love me some sympathetic villains), a manga-based version of Mina's backstory and her transition from Sailor V to Sailor Venus, manga!Rei, character development for Ami (love interest Ryo and/or transforming into Dark Mercury), and a high-school-age, legitimately likable Mamoru. But we'll see.
