I've been sick with this ridiculous cough/sore throat/laryngitis/congestion horror since Sunday, and it feels like it's taking forever to get over it. I'll feel like I might be getting better, but then it's a very two steps forward, one step back sort of getting better

Also, what works for me is 1000 mgs paracetamol/acetominophen and 1000mgs vitamin C taken together before bed. Helps me sleep and makes me feel more capable to face the next day. I then also take 1000mgs vitamin C in the morning, but you should really only do that if you don't take any other meds.
Also, so sorry to hear this! Nothing is more annoying than flu/colds, I am a terrible patient of them, too.

I've been using an ibuprofen/pseudophedrine combo because that's what helps really well with my allergies and I have it on hand, but I don't think the pseudophedrine is that effective when I have a cold. I just noticed I do actually have some cough syrup on hand. I probably should have given that a try a couple days ago. I don't know if it's as necessary now.
It seems like the older I get, the worse patient I am. :P Right now I'm just especially cranky since I can't talk much. I get easily annoyed by that, especially when other people try to talk to me and I can't converse properly.

Pseudoephedrine? That's a banned substance over here, but I'm pretty sure you need to double check the contents of your cough syrup before you take those two together. Professional habit, sorry. In any case, anything that helps lubricate the throat tends to be good, so honey drops or licorice often work. Anything stronger, you'd have to worry about your meds interfering.
I hear you. I'm a terrible, terrible patient; people hate to be around me. When I can't breathe well, it drives me bonkers and I'm allergic to xylometazoline, so I can't take conventional nasal sprays. I always suffer terribly. *hugs* Hang in there.
