di = dexi = ディ

… so, I didn’t know how to type ディ, or a few of the other additional syllables (for foreign words) that are included in Katakana, in MS Word, but Google can be a wonderful thing.

Apparently in MS Word you use the letter 'x' after the original syllable to make the next character you type the small one you need for contracted syllables:

ti = texi = ティ
di = dexi = ディ
dyu = dexyu = デュ
kwo = kuxo =クォ
wo = uxo = ウォ (not to be mixed up with ヲ o/wo)

the more common contracted syllables like shu シュ, kya キャ, hya ヒャ, pyo ピョ etc. can be typed the usual/easier way with 2 or 3 letters, but I couldn't type the above without using the 'x'. Did I miss any of the awkward ones?

You could use the 'x' for the other contracted syllables if you wanted, but why type kixya when you can just use kya. It seems to work with anything you want to type in both Katakana and Hiragana except the small tsu つ/ツ, you can write none existent syllables too, かぃ / カィ.

And why is 'ye' イェ?

I know nothing, what else am I missing out on? You know... other than EVERYTHING!!!

I’ll have forgotten this next week, maybe, probably *sigh*

P.S. Why does LJ always mess up formatting if you copy and paste from Word?
