Following some sort of train of thought combining the wonderful minds of
Chris Knight and the inimitable
Torgo, I wondered just what it would be like if gravity reversed itself, just for a second.
My first thought applied to myself and my own predicament. With gravity directing me away from the ground instead of holding me to it, I would travel around 16 feet in a second, and then, when gravity became normal again, I would fall that 16 feet. That's not very pleasant. That's kind of like jumping out of a second-story window for no real reason. But then I thought about more, wider circumstances of this reversal. What if, just for one second, gravity became a repulsive force rather than an attractive one? What would happen throughout the entire universe?
This isn't like
that other time. I can't do all the calculations in my head. I'm pretty certain it would mess some stuff up, push planets out of orbits, and be generally bad. But I don't have specifics.
That's some good dinner conversation for you. I like me and my girl.
