Taking a break from setting up bug ("issue") tracking to finish the presentation of a mix CD.
Now, I don't normally do this, but it's a special occasion. Jack's girl's friend is coming in for Spring Break, and there is to be a contest, a mix CD contest. The CDs will be judged on many factors, including presentation. When I heard this, I was mispleased. My normal presentation involves ejecting the CD, writing the name on it with a Sharpie, and slipping it into a plastic sleeve. I briefly considered using
an old mix to give me plenty of time to work on presentation, even going so far as to consider pictures to use for it - that one of the mouse with the human ear growing out of its back, for instance.
But no - that would be false. What to do, then? Ideas needed to be found. I considered a New York mix, thinking of songs to use from Cub and They Might Be Giants and Fear and Warren Zevon and others, but quickly became disillusioned upon realizing my Frank Sinatra collection didn't include "New York, New York".
Seriously. What's up with that? Anyway, that should wait for a more appropriate time.
And then it came to me. I could make the CD you never give to a girl. It's the complete heart-on-my-sleeve, laying-it-bare, do-what-you-will-with-this-revelation mix. It's perfect. It's about unrequited love, or lost love, or love fucked over, or something. I don't really know what it's about, but it sounds pretty nice. And with the help of origami skills (and
a certain web site), some conversion tools, and a little bit of time and effort, I could make
a suitable presentation for it.
And so it goes. I regret nothing.
