Just got back from a two-week trip to China, I'm still feeling the effects of jetlag. It was a business trip -- so on one hand, I had a less crazy time than I might have had as a tourist, but I also got to see things that most tourists never get to see. Like what, you might ask? Well, because it was an ethographic study, I got to spend time interviewing "regular" folks in their daily life, and I had access to places tourists generally can't go. Very enlightening.
If you're so inclined, take a gander at these images:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/citizenkafka/ The food was great, and I got to learn the difference between Cantonese, Sichuan, and Shanghai cuisine. Not surprisingly, authentic Chinese food in no way resembles the Americanized versions. On top of that, all the food was super cheap.
This week I return to work as usual, which is a somewhat meaningless phrase. What is usual for me? Good or bad, my life has lots of variety.
Before my trip, I picked up a Canon HV20 HD camcorder, and I've been impressed. It shoots 24p in HD resolution, and the CMOS sensor has excellent color for a one chip camera. It's a lot of camera for $1k. After doing a little post-production on the video I shot in China - I'm eager to do some short films again. I only need a few minor pieces of equipment to round out a workable small production package - a wireless audio reciever and a couple lights. I've told my pals to write some shorts scripts in hopes of shooting one in the next months.
Still feeling bleary, time to sign off...
