Tonight is my mom's last day at work. she lost her job. She's worked there 26 years.
She's a career waitress.
It was always sort of embarrassing to say your mom's a waitress. now that i'm grown up, i realize what it meant to me. she worked hard. she taught me how to work hard and i'm forever grateful for that. I'm not sure where i'd be if my mom was a housewife. I see a lot of the spoiled kids from high school went on to do nothing with their lives. maybe they needed a waitress for a mom. and a carpenter for a dad. I worked my ass off for everything i have today. And i have a lot. Thank GOD my mom was a college dropout waitress.

My brother, i think, washed dishes and did some chef prep work. I started as a bus girl and then became a waitress. i hostessed a few nights. my sister is now a bus girl; she's hostessing tonight. Her band might be performing a goodbye song. Her best friend works there with her. I got my best friend a job there in high school too.
My mom is taking home a few memorabilia from the place tonight. She is going to get so drunk and cry so much.
I don't think the Ruby Tuesday's down the street (that pretty much put them out of business) is looking to hire any waitresses over 50.
