Epilepsy, maybe? The episode with him staring into space seemed like a petit mal seizure, and I think there are some anti-depressants that are also rated for anti-convulsant therapy.

Heh, I think I got that backwards: google tells me some anti-convulsants are used in the treatment of bipolar disorder. Anyway.
