Art of Happiness

tnjade has inspired me to start posting each time I've finished reading or listening to a book...I wish I had started this at the beginning of the year. I made a list of the ones I've done since the start of the year the other day, and I'll try to play catch-up later (I'll be sure to use the cut feature to save your friends pages...)

I finished the abridged audiobook of The Art of Happiness by The Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler, a psychologist.

At a whopping 3 cd's, it was a quick listen. I liked many of the visualization exercises and even though I think of myself as a nice enough guy, I realized I have a lot to work on. It really made me think about my passive aggresive streak and how I sometimes allow my view of people to get in my way.

It wasn't preachy, but the style of the thing was the psychologist asked the Dalai Lama about different things that are problematic for westerners and he tried to get a new approach to deal with it. I remember being shocked a little when he asked the Dalai Lama about self-hatred and the Dalai Lama didn't think he had understood the question. It was an alien concept to him.

It's good, it's short and I'll probably listen to it again sporadically to see where I am. Anyone else read or listen to it?
