Voter turnout: 2077, or 22.6% of the full-time undergraduates.
UPass: 1716 Yes, 346 No, 15 Spoiled. That's 83.2% YES. HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
Academic Societies: 1597 Yes, 476 No, 4 Spoiled. That's 76.8% YES
It is unprecedented by over 500 votes. We cleared 20% of the population in our referendum! That is so fucking amazing. I am thrilled to bits. I am in love with almost everyone. So many people worked hard on this, but I'm sorry, the UPass has been my baby for the last year and a half. I am so glad that it caught on as an issue and people took it to heart and gave time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears for this, but no matter what, I can't help that this feels like my baby. More than Childcare, more than Queer Visibility, more than the Food Bank. But there is just so much joy to go around.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Thank you Shawn and Jenn for being the negotiation team from the beginning. Thank you Aubrey for being on this this before I was. Thank you Walied for your support from the start. Thank you Sameer for always having my back on this, and being negotiation team part two with me. Thank you Berkha for seeing the importance of this and pulling this off with us. Thank you Adam and Jon for being all over this. Thank you Rabaab, Aun, Trini, Chelsea, Anita, Tejas, Marwa, Michelle, Ade, Ashwin, Sina, Heba, Andrea, Anum, Uman, Bushra, Amrita, and Ehsan. If I forgot you, well, it's 3:17 am, but I love you for being a part of this.
This is overwhelming, even for me. As I sit here typing, still wearing Shawn's sunglasses, I am further amazed by what this can mean for the GTA. We are the first school in the GTA to pull this off. St. George, Scarborough, York, George Brown, and everywhere else now have something huge to point to. OK, I'm done tooting our horn.
