#01. The last gyoza
Chinen, Takaki and the rest of 7 were waiting at the entrance of the city park for the rest of BEST to arrive. It was their day off and they had decided to spend the day together just having fun.
“Where are they?” Keito asked impatiently, “They’re already 20 minutes late!”
“Yeah, and it feels like the two of us aren’t meant to be here either,” Ryutaro replied, glancing at the two couples who were with them. On the bench, Chinen was playing with Takaki’s PSP with Takaki watching over his shoulder. Yuto was jabbering on about how he was going to make full use of the day with Yamada, and Yamada was just nodding his head and smiling.
“They said they were going to stop by the Jimusho first,” Takaki suddenly said, “I think Yabu left his bag there yesterday.”
Keito shook his head and looked up, if he had known he would have slept in longer.
15 minutes later, Yabu, Hikaru, Inou and Daiki came strolling up towards them. As they approached, Keito saw that the four of them were fighting over a small lunchbox in Hikaru’s hand.
“Hey there’s only a piece left!” Daiki exclaimed, reaching over to the lunchbox only to have Inou stop him, “Come’on, you already had 4 pieces!”
“Wait a minute,” Hikaru cut in, “I only had 3 so does that mean I get the last one?”
“Hey no! I had 3 too!” Daiki complained.
“Alright guys,” Yabu said, “We could easily share the last one, so no complains ya?”
But before they could dig in, Keito and Ryutaro were already in front of them, peeking into the lunchbox.
“Gyoza?” Ryutaro exclaimed.
“Gyoza?” echoed an excited Chinen who came running over as well, with Takaki right behind his heels, “I want Gyoza too!”
As the 8 of them argued over who was going to get the last gyoza, Yuto’s hand came out from nowhere and picked it out.
“Here,” he said happily to Yamada, as he broke the gyoza in half, “let’s share.”
Yamada laughed nervously as he looked at the other 8 boys staring at them, fire evident in their eyes. But Yuto was oblivious to the tension building up around him as he stuff half the gyoza into Yamada’ mouth.
“Ah there goes the last of Ohno-senpai’s gyozaaaaaa,” said an upset Hikaru as he stared at the empty lunchbox.
“Ohno-senpai?!?!” exclaimed Takaki, Keito, Ryutaro, Yuto and Yamada in unison.
The five of them turned to look at Chinen, who was turning 2 very dangerous eyes towards Yuto. Yuto slowly backed away, “Er… Sorry Chi I didn’t know that it was Ohno-senpai who made it.”
Chinen looked menacing as he advanced towards Yuto, “That was hand-made by Ohno-senpai,” he said sofly.
And before they knew it, Yuto and Chinen were playing a game of Police and Thief with Yuto seriously running for his life.
“You should have left out the part about Ohno-senpai,” Yabu hissed to Hikaru, who innocently scratched his head.
#02. The lap attack.
JUMP were in dressing room hanging out and doing their own things. Inou was helping Ryutaro with his homework, Keito was helping Yabu with his English assignment, Yamada was engrossed in his new comic, Yuto and Hikaru were napping on the couch and Chinen, Takaki and Daiki were talking about the new WII game that Daiki just bought.
“BEST,” their manager called, his head popping out from the door, “your dance teacher wants to see you for a moment.”
“Now?” Yabu whined, wanting to complete his assignment.
Keito tapped him on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, there’s still me.”
Daiki and Takaki got up from the floor and headed over to the sleeping Hikaru.
“Hikaru, sensei wants to see us!” Takaki hollered into Hikaru’s ear, getting a whacked on the head instead in return by the sleeping boy. Hikaru turned and snuggled into Yuto’s back, refusing to wake up.
“There’s no way we’re going to get him up,” Inou said walking over, Yabu following closely behind, “so there’s only one thing we can do.”
With that, the 4 boys hauled Hikaru by the limbs and left the room, with Hikaru still snoring in their wake.
Chinen watched as they left, wondering what else was there he could do. Keito had now retreated to Hikaru’s position and he was fast drifting off to dreamland. Chinen walked over to Yamada and stood in front of him, waiting for Yamada to notice.
Yamada looked up from his comic and smiled, “Alright, I know what you want. Come’on you can read my comic with me.”
Chinen’s face radiated as in slipped onto Yamada’s lap. Yamada wrapped his arms around the small boy as the 2 of them read the comic book
Just then, Yuto stirred from his sleep and sat up. He rubbed his eyes and said groggily, “Yamada?”
“Hmm… yes?” Yamada replied absentmindedly, as he turned the page of the comic book, “How was your nap?”
Yuto’s voice was still full of sleep, “It was nic---, Chinen?!”
The 2 boys looked up from their book to see a mortified Yuto. “What’s wrong?” Chinen asked innocently.
“What are you doing on Yamada?” Yuto demanded, getting up from his position.
“Yuto---” Yamada sighed, Yuto was over-reacting again.
“Get off Chinen,” Yuto said dangerously, “Yamada’s going to sit next to me while I sleep.”
“Eh?” Chinen resisted, “But I want to sit on Yamada’s lap!”
“No, you can’t!” Yuto pouted.
“Yuto---”
“But I came first!”
“No, Yamada’s going to SIT, NEXT, TO, ME.”
2 minutes later Yuto was snoring with Yamada and Keito at either side of him, his hands firmly around Yamada’s wrist. Yamada shook his head as he turned to Chinen and said, “Sorry, Chi.”
Chinen wrapped his arms around his legs and pouted. He wanted to sit on Yamada’s lap, he hardly got the chance these days either. Well at least he had Takaki, oh when was he going to get back?
#03. Siblings are the benchmark.
JUMP were on their way home in the company van. It had been a tiring day for them and they were exhausted and eager to get home to rest.
“Whoo-boy,” Yuto exclaimed from the 2nd row, resting his head against the back of the seat that was infront of him, “today’s rehearsal was really something.”
“Yeah,” Hikaru complained, “I swear I won’t be able to feel my legs for days.”
“Those flips and turns sensei made us repeat made me see stars half the time,” groan Inou, massaging his temples.
“Even Chinen’s wiped out,” Yabu cut in, turning to see a sleeping Chinen at the back row, “and he’s the acrobat.”
“But the flips Chi did today were more than what Sensei asked us to do,” Yamada said, leaning his head on Yuto’s shoulder, “He seemed to be so hyped up about practicing his back twist in the air, I was worried he was going to get hurt.”
“Maybe Ohno-senpai was looking from outside the rehearsal room?” Keito added in, “If that was so, Chi would be fired up trying to impress him.”
Takaki laughed and remained silent, looking down at the sleeping boy on his lap.
20 minutes later…
“Tadaima,” Chinen called out sleepily, looking around the house for his mother.
“Itterashai,” his mother hummed back as she whipped pass him into the kitchen, “dinner will be ready in 15 minutes. Help me get your sister down, will you? Thanks Yuuri!”
Chinen dragged himself up the stairs and into his older sister’s room, “Mum’s calling you,” he said as he dropped himself on her bed.
Chinen’s sister turned around and looked at her younger brother, “Hey Yuuri, guess what.”
“What?”
“I did double spin backflip today.”
“WHAT?!” Chinen exclaimed, sitting straight up, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Chinen’s sister got up from the chair she was sitting on and performed it exactly.
Chinen closed his eyes and fell back down onto her bed again, exasperation lining his face.
“Again!” he cried, “come’on sis, let me do something first for once. You’re always getting stuff before me!”
“Well isn’t that normal?” she laughed, “I am older than you.”
“But I worked so hard this time,” Chinen replied angrily, “and I’ve almost got it!”
She laid down on the bed next to him, “I’m sure you’ll get it soon!” she said cheerfully.
“That’s not the point,” he muttered. As much as he loved his older sister, the level of competiveness between was always evident.
She ruffled his hair and gave him a little hug as she got up, “Gambatte kudasai Yuuri.”
Chinen turned over and sighed into the cover, irritated with himself. Why did she always win?
Chinen’s sister stopped at the door and turned back around.
“Oh ya, Yuuri,” she said cheekily, “What I meant was about you growing taller than me, Gambatte kudasai.”
“NE-CHAN!”
#04. The rival senpai
It was one of those days when you could feel it in your gut that something bad was going to happen, but Takaki simply could not place a finger on what it was. There was 15 minutes more before their rehearsal was going to start and all of JUMP were nearly accounted for, except for Chinen. He worriedly folded his brows; it was not like the small boy to be late for any dance practice.
Takaki pulled out his handphone from his bag and attempted to call him, but to his dismay, he was redirected to the voicemail.
Where is that guy? Takaki thought worriedly, putting down the phone, when he arrives, he is so going to get it from me.
10 minutes later, a disgruntled Chinen came lumbering into the room. He dove head first onto the dressing room’s sofa and dug his head into his bag. Yamada looked at the dismayed boy and threw an accusing look at Takaki, who immediately raised his hands in self-defense.
Yabu ruffled Chinen’s head as he walked pass him, pulling Inou and Hikaru with him out of the dressing room. Daiki, Keito and Ryutaro automatically followed them, with Yuto pushing Yamada along, who still shooting daggers at Takaki.
Takaki walked over to the couch and looked down at Chinen, he was quite sure he did not do anything wrong this time. And weren’t the two of them having a great time at the ice-cream parlor just the week before?
He sat down on the part of the sofa where Chinen’s feet were unable to cover, and lean down over him. Takaki rested his chin on Chinen’s shoulder and whispered, “So, you wanna tell me what’s wrong?”
“J-j-just now-w-w,” Chinen quietly said in between sobs, “N-n-nino sen-n-npai stop-p-ped me from-m-m going-g-g i-i-into their r-r-reharsal room.” And with that he started to wail even louder.
Takaki sighed and returned to his seating position, leaning his head against the wall. He should have known it was to do with Ohno-senpai. Even though he and Chinen were together now, Chinen’s admiration for Ohno-senpai was at a totally different level.
“But doesn’t Nino-sempai do that all the time?” Takaki asked tactlessly, now he really wanted to get over it and head off for rehearsal. They were late and he did not want to miss out on today’s acrobatic class, and unlike Chinen, he was still unable to do a back flip without breaking his neck. But when Chinen looked up at him with those tear-stained eyes, he immediately regretted his harsh tone.
“I mean,” he said more gently, “Nino-senpai just wanted to make sure Arashi focuses on their rehearsal. Especially now, with Matsumoto-senpai and Ohno-senpai busy filming Hana Yori Dango and Maou.”
“Yah-h-h,” Chinen sniffled, finally calming down, “But when he saw me peeking through the window, he kissed Ohno-senpai on the cheek and turned back and looked at me! Then he made Ohno-kun piggyback him, and I’ve always wanted a piggyback from Ohno-senpai!”
Takaki knew that Nino-senpai would especially stick to Ohno-senpai when Chinen was around, and Chinen was easily agitated when it came down to anything that had to do with Ohno-senpai. And recently, Nino-senpai increased his opposition tactics after Chinen and Ohno-senpai had a exclusive interview with Popolo magazine, not that Takaki blamed Nino, he himself was a little jealous when he saw the photos Chinen and Ohno-senpai took together.
Chinen snuggled against Takaki who instinctively placed an arm around him. Sighing he placed a soft kiss on the small boy’s head and rested his head on it. Well he would have to put up with this till Chinen’s fan-boyism died down, but he reckon that would be a long time later.
#05. The other girl.
“Eh Chi,” Ryutaro asked as 7 headed back to their dressing room, “What’s wrong with Yuto?”
Chinen turned to see a dazed Yuto following them, knocking into the dustbin on the way.
“Isn’t it obvious?” Chinen replied, sighing, “Yamada’s off filming his new show now, and I guess Yuto’s missing him a bit too much.”
BEST and 7 were separated for vocal class today, and with the absence of Yamada, the class seemed even smaller as it was narrowed down to only Keito, Chinen and Ryutaro. Yuto’s mind had drifted off somewhere only he knew, and his performance during class was no difference to a dead fish.
“Yeah,” Keito added in, “Yuto didn’t even add his rabbit icon when I email-ed him to ask about practice today.”
After packing, the 4 of them headed towards the lobby where they were supposed to meet BEST. Yuto walked aimlessly infront of them, occasionally talking to a picture on the wall. Halfway through the walkway, Keito went over to guide him, just in case he mistook the next flowerpot for Yamada.
As Keito and Yuto turned at the end of the walkway that led to the lobby, their eyes grew big and they stood rooted to the spot.
“Hey guys,” Ryutaro started, “What’s goi---”
Before Chinen and Ryutaro could see what was going on, Yabu, Inou, Hikaru and Daiki suddenly came rushing towards them
“Oh hey guys,” Yabu said, a little too excitedly, “Wow you guys are early!”
“What?” Chinen asked confused, “Aren’t you guys earlier?”
“Ah-haa,” Hikaru laughed nervously, turning the two boys around, “Wow, isn’t the weather hot today, let’s head back to the dressing room shall we?”
“No it’s not,” Ryutaro replied irritably, “It’s 6pm, the weather’s fine.”
Yuto, who suddenly seem to break out of his trance said, “Yeah, yeah. It looks REALLY hot, let’s just grab a drink and chill in the dressing room eh?”
“What’s going on guys,” Ryutaro asked, getting a little angry, “I’m young but I’m not that young. What are you guys hiding?”
The other 6 boys kept quiet and looked at each other.
“Where’s Takaki?” Chinen asked quietly, looking around.
He tried to push through Daiki and Hikaru would were standing in front of him, but the 2 older boys refused to let him through.
Hikaru looked down at Chinen and said, “Buddy, maybe you shouldn’t go there just yet.”
With that, Chinen forcefully pushed himself between the two boys and ran into the lobby. Then he saw what the older boys were trying to hide from him.
There at the entrance that led to the lobby, stood Takaki and a girl who had her arms around his neck in a hug. Chinen’s heart went still as he stared at the two of them. He felt the rest of JUMP gather behind him as they watched on nervously.
Hikaru placed a hand on Chinen’s shoulder, “Chinen, it’s ---”
Takaki looked over, and his eyes widen when he saw Chinen and the guys looking on at him. Chinen broke away from Hikaru’s grip and ran back down the walkway, and felt hot tears slowly welling up in his eyes.
As he pulled opened the door that led to the boy’s toilet, a hand suddenly pushed it shut. Chinen looked up to see a panting Takaki looking back down at him. He turned around, attempting to run away, but Takaki’s hand grabbed his in a firm grip. Chinen tried to struggle away but Takaki was way too strong.
“Chinen,” Takaki started, “Listen to me.”
“No I don’t want to,” Chinen replied crying, “That’s the girl who confessed to you during Gokusen right?”
“Yes,” Takaki continued, “But ---”
“I thought you liked me,” Chinen cut in, tears streaming earnestly down his fair face.
“Yes I do!” Takaki said loudly, surprising the young boy.
Oh man, Yamada’s going to kill me, Takaki thought to himself.
“Yes she is that girl,” Takaki said, “But the reason she’s here is because she’s done with her internship and she’s going back to her home in Kyoto. So she wants to say bye before she leaves tomorrow.”
“And that hug was just a farewell hug.”
Chinen stood there speechless.
Takaki grinned, “Hikaru and the guys knew you’ll react like that, that’s why they stopped you. I was planning to tell you anyway.”
Then he gathered the small boy in his arms and said, “And no hugs can ever beat this, so don’t be jealous eh?”
“I’m not jealous,” Chinen replied knowing full well that he was. He leaned is head on Takaki’s shoulder and closed his eyes. Takaki laughed at hugged the smaller boy even tighter
Jealousy comes in all kinds of form, he thought as Takaki piggybacked him back to the lobby where the rest of JUMP were waiting, but this, was the most intense of all.
Hope you enjoyed it! :D I love comments! :D
hey! say! jump,
