Random updating time. LA!!!!!!!!!

So lots of things have occurred since my last entry. To begin I had my last two college auditions. My Cincinati audition went well. Rather than drive out for 10 hours to Cincy, I decided to go to their regional audition in NY. It was definitely a good choice and went so much better than my Boston Conservatory audition. Bernie ended up accompanying me and he did a great job given the fact that a few of his pages fell during my first piece. He hid that really well and did not affect my performance at all. He was all worked up over it but that's him being the perfectionist he is. I love him. LOL So the audition was in this recording studio which was interesting. I also did not realize how many shitty people sing musical theater. Seriously, why the hell would you indulge in singing such crappy music? I mention this only because Bernie, my mom, my sister, and I heard several musical rehearsals taking place while I waiting to audition. These people sounded awful and had this "air" about them that screamed, "Hi. I am this wonderful musical theater singer that lives in a hole in NY. Look at me because I'm great.!" Yeah fucking right. It just further supports my decision to sing classical music. Music theater can eat it and if you don't like that well...that's TOO DAMN BAD. Go read someone else's blog. I also debuted in my first opera production in Lansdowne last Sunday. Overall I did a good job and sounded good. The whole show went well and it was fun for my sister and myself to make fun of some of the weirder voices in the show. Some parts proved to be rather "interesting." Then Monday I had my audition to the Manhattan School of Music. I love that school! Everything about Monday went so well so let me tell you how everything took place. Well to begin with, I had to go to ESU that day....EWWWWW!!! After classes my mom and sister picked me up and we headed to my grandmother's house in NJ so I could get changed and then head to NY. We arrived to NY around 5:30 and my audition was at 7pm so we made great timing. Did I mention that the Upper West Side is gorgeous? The minute I got off the subway I felt so at home. I know that is where I belong. So I went in and registered and looked for a pratice room so I could warm up and be prepared for this uber important audition. Finding a room was a pain in the ass but after ten minutes I found a room without a piano and surronded by violinists. Thank god I have perfect pitch because I used the room and practiced. It's always fun being a vocalist and practicing with other instrumentalists because vocalists usually don't practice so I think it makes instrumentalists think differently when vocalists practice. (As long as the vocalists are good. I can't stand shitty vocalists. ARGH!) So I went to the audition area around 6:30 in order to be early. Well, after a while no one came out of the room which was rather odd. It was almost 7pm and another girl was waiting in the same area so we got to talking and whatnot. We talked more and waited until about 7:15 and still no sign of anyone. Finally, we looked for audition monitors and it turns out that we were in the wrong area! AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! Luckily, they helped us find the right place and we ran for it. Everything turned out well and we weren't late. The only thing was that we had to wait for a LONG LONG time. Seeing as I was nervous as hell this did not help at all. I was able to hear people auditioning and it calmed my nerves. Some sounded really good and others did not. The judges were seeing master's and bachelor's students so it was different qualities all around. There was this one guy auditioning as a countertenor! He sounded like an old woman. It was pretty funny. So 8:15 comes and there were two people left. So the girl I met auditioned before me and she sounded really nice. It was definitely a good lyric voice. So finally my turn arrived and all my nerves went away once I entered the recital hall. The voice faculty had to be the friendliest group of voice teachers I have ever met. I have never felt so comfortable at an audition ever. I opened with a German piece and all of them seemed really interested. They all seemed so receptive which made me oh so happy. Afterwards the head of the department said, "Good. Good. I don't think we need to hear anything else but let's hear this piece." He suggested I sing the recitative from Mendelssohn's Elijah entitled "Ye people rend your hearts." This was odd because no one at the other schools I auditioned to ever asked for it. It seems that they just wanted to hear another piece just because. I think they were pretty impressed. *crosses fingers* I left the audition with a great feeling and I hope I get accepted into the school so I can leave ESU and finally be at school that offers what I'm looking for. I know for a fact that the Manhattan School of Music is the perfect fit for me.

I apologize for the length of my post. Get over it.

Also, ESU is a complete joke. Thought I'd let everyone know. I'm just counting down the days until I am out of here.

Now I wait for April 1st when I hear back from the four schools I auditioned to. Where will I go? We shall see.
