Great news for anyone who loves works of great cinema and works of great science fiction. A nearly intact reel of the original cut of Fritz Lang's Metropolis has been located in South America and is going to be restored and distributed. Anyone who has seen this absolutely wonderful movie knows that much of it is missing and replaced by title cards due to World War 2 and much of the film stock either degrading or being destroyed. What remains has been turned into a digital format, but a great deal of the movie was considered lost forever.
No more. As someone who loves cinema and loves science fiction, this is amazing. I can't wait to see the full version of the movie with the missing scenes restored. Metropolis was amazing, visionary, and a beautiful movie. It's my absolute favorite of the old classics and this news absolutely delights me to no end.
While we're on the topic of the great Science Fiction films, what films do you all find to be most influential or best for the Science Fiction genre?
