hooray accomplishments!
Soooo I just co-write and directed an original musical.
Last September a bunch of my friends decided to write an original musical, just for shits and giggles. None of us felt confident enough to just do it on our own so we all brainstormed the story together (though it is based off of a short story) and wrote the script and lyrics, and got other people to write the music (though I did also write music for one song). And then this semester I directed it and just last night we had our last performance. It actually went well. I am kind of astounded.
I don't actually think I've mentioned it on this journal before, because I didn't want to count my chickens before they hatched or whatever, but it has actually come off successfully! Ironically it does feel like a small thing to me because it is just a little college musical that probably nobody else will ever see other than the couple hundred people who saw it on campus, but still, it is a great thing to have actually done it. A little something for me to think back on on days when I'm feeling worthless. My friends also want to start writing another musical next semester so I'm going to be brainstorming ideas for that over break.
Next semester I'm hoping to get to perform in something, hopefully a musical. There are over TWENTY MOTHERFUCKING SHOWS currently slotted to go up next semester, astoundingly, so I am almost guaranteed a role in something, though whether or not it will be a significant role or one I like is yet to be seen. I am a huge attention whore and thus do love acting so I hope I can get a part in something that I enjoy. (I will admit I'm still a touch bitter about not getting to be Cinderella in last year's production of Into The Woods. I'm a tiny, unhappy girl who constantly daydreams about pretty clothes and never knows what she really wants; what more do you need!?)
