You guys, I think I'm setting myself up for disaster here. Because I want Kirk/Spock to happen, like actually legitimately happen, in the next movie(s) SO BAD. Like, holy shit. But obviously, the chances of it actually happening are... slight. I feel. If, for no other reason, than the fact that I can't imagine why they'd put Spock with Uhura only to dismantle that and replace it with K/S so soon after. I'd like that, but I doubt that was their intent.
It's so ubiquitous, though! I was at dinner with some friends, and there was this guy there I've only talked to a couple times, and we were actually talking about putting some gay in the next Star Trek and I said, "I want Kirk and Spock to get together so bad!" and he just kind of rolled his eyes and said, "well yeah, but everyone wants that."
